Indicator/hazard light problems

Featured Replies

Hopefully someone can help. Ive got 2002 52 plate Octy RS and its due MOT next month. Recently whenever i indicate either left or right, the indicators flash very quickly out of sync then very slowly as if one of the bulbs has blown. I replaced all bulbs front, rear and side but the problem still persists. Is this a relay problem or something else. Please help. Dont know much about Skodas, ive been an Impreza driver for the last few years, lol.

Hi

Try doing a search on here for the Hazzard switch

That could be the problem

A doddle to fit and quite cheap

The relay is in the back of the switch you see

If that does not cure it , then it could be the stalk , but my first shot would be Hazzard switch

Cheers Sarah, i`ll give that a go, im guessing the hazzard switch just pulls out without much hassle, last thing i want to do is break something.

Remove the plastic trim piece around the hazard warning switch and the latter will then pull out easily. However if it is like mine you will be faced with how to reconnect the new switch to the plug on a cable which won't pull out enough to allow you to achieve this. I removed the plastic trim around the radio and Climatronic then prised out the 2 centre switches - ESP and blank in my case. Using a pair of very long-nosed pliers, I was able to pull on the hazard warning switch cable to generate some slack so that I could then reconnect the hazard switch. Good luck!

This is a simple 5 minute job which turned into a 30 minute one...

Hi M80JJB,

the same thing's just started happening to mine today so I need the relay as well. Where did you get yours and how much was it?

Cheers,

Cheers, only just read this today as the relay finally gave up the ghost just at the beginning of a 150 mile journey to me ma's, so no indicators all the way. I've never had so many people beeping me

Have you never heard of "Hand Signals" if not look in highway code

Thats what they used before indicators (showing my age )

You could just fit BMW badges instead, then you won't need to use the indicators anymore :D

 nice one!!!

Hand signals at 70 mph on the M1??? Nice idea but ...

Anyway, I've just been outside in the freezing fog trying to fix this ****ing thing. Even after taking all the trim off and trying to remove the radio, there is absolutely no slack to be had from the cable so I'm driving home with a gaping hole in the dash and a hazard switch hanging loose.

Does anyone else have any ideas???

I can't believe Skoda put it together so tight with no slack so the only way you can fit a new switch is to remove the whole centre console??? But of course ... Removing the whole console makes it a 2-hour job instead of a 5-minute job. How stupid of me ... How do you think dealers survive?

Man, this has defeated me totally

Right, after a good night's sleep and a calmer head (and some further investigations on Briskoda) I've fixed it. :D

The thin strips of credit card idea to remove the head unit was a stunner, especially since I just canceled the card and had to chop it up anyway.

So, after sliding the radio out, suddenly miles of cable was mine for the taking; relay clipped in; dash vents back where they should be – in the dash and not on the floor, and the job's a good 'un.

The old relay seems to be working fine after cleaning the contacts so I'll stick with that for a while and see what happens. At least I'll be able to do it in about a minute next time if it goes again.

I couldn't have done it without Briskoda. Thanks all for a great site and keep up the good work :thumbup::thumbup:
