Wheel spins! Loose front help!

Featured Replies

I've been driving longer than you've even been a glint in your daddy's eye, and I know that the fundamental cause of any form of wheel spin, hopping, axle tramp and all their relatives is putting down more power than you have grip and suspension location for.

However, there is no way of fitting an anti-tramp system to an FWD road car with a torsion beam rear axle. You can't fit the geometric anti-squat the rear needs because you only have 1 pivot for each wheel so you can't relocate one lower than the other. There is no such thing as front anti-squat, and if there were it would cause additional dive under braking. There is also no such thing as a tramp bar for a front IFS. This means you can't engineer your way out of the issue with geometry changes or additional suspension links short of making a front tube frame and double wishbone suspension.

Harder springs and dampers sound like an answer, but will actually compromise traction anywhere except in a straight line on a fairly smooth road.

Which only leaves one option - Learn to drive!

Come on...I'm 18, and at the moment need to do a shedload of saving to pay for insurance for a VRS, which I'll hopefully get when I'm 19. I thought VRS' weren't usually treated like this, so PLEASE don't do anything daft.

If you really must, make sure to hell that you're:

a) Not caught

B) Don't crash

I don't want VRS insurance costs to rise!! :(

And remind me not to buy a car from you.

Hello,

I must admit i get the same problem in my Fabia vrs as well. Its just the old matter of too much power/torque and too little grip. I used to have it mapped to 165bhp and it felt really fast in 2nd gear. But ever since i had it increased to 180bhp its not.

Now thats all down to car control (e.g. giving it too much power).

Personally i just change gear around the point the turbo kicks in.

I like the idea of starting in 2nd gear as posted previously (might give it a go)

If anyone sees a black Fabia stalling in Edinburgh today im blaming briskoda for influening me :)!!!!

Hey - I live in Winchester too along with being 18... Unlike you, i've learnt not to drive like a bell end the hard way after ending up in a tree on the badger farm roundabout just outside sainsbury's.

Is it a black vrs? Might have seen you around...

Oh and yeah - ditch the spins, as much as we feel like true hero's when we're doing it, every time I'm walking around and see someone else spinning up or driving like a douche I just think "woah... what a nob" and so do the ladies... not cool.

Get your car looking pimpy so you can cruise around looking ****hot nice and slow so everyone can see your car.

OH - word of warning, seen a grey 07 plate Audi A4 undercover cop car the other day around Winch... keep them peeled!

I rag $hit out of mine on launch, 2nd lauches, 4,000rpm dump clutch and rock and roll baby.

car fukcing loves it.
