TDI Exhaust Question

Featured Replies

Whilst my car was up on the lift at Awesome on the weekend I noticed that a short distance from the turbo the exhaust had been cut and had another (slightly larger) pipe acting as a sleeve to join the front part of the exhaust to the rear part.

When these cars were new would the exhaust have been fitted in 2 parts or could it have had a CAT fitted that has been removed?

If there IS no cat now, then yes, it has been decatted via the use of a sleeved bit of pipe. :)

Decat, nice!

mmm. how very odd, the owner of the car before me was a Lease Hire Company and that is how the car came to me

I wonder if thats why my RR result was alot higher than most of the other pd130's over the last 2 RR days

I'm not sure how similar the Octy TDi is to my Passat as I know the Octy is transverse, so this may not be relevant.

I recently had a problem with the flexible pipe between the turbo and the cat'. The flexi joint is part of the cat' pipe and can't be replaced independently (without chopping and welding). I considered replacing mine with a straight through pipe and universal flexi joint as a cheap alternative to a replacement cat. I wonder if this could have happened to yours?

hmmm indeed, cheating i don't know guess i'm gonna have to get spending now to catch up;)

Is the sleeve about four inches long and does it have two 17mm nuts clamping it up. If so its a standard sleeve. There should be one after the downpipe/cat joinin it to the centre pipe and one joining the centre pipe to the rear box if one part has been replaced at some point as they are one piece from factory.

I'll try and get a look tomorrow when I try my new wheels on.

Yes there is a sleeve after the CAT :( it wasn't the shape I was expecting it to be and I was expecting it to be further back.

Guess this means I have something to work with now. Decat next ;)
