Featured Replies

i have a octy1 vrs and i have just had a remap and 007 dv and a induction kit fitted and i am made up with it what a lot of car for so little money just had to share this with every one because i cant belive the diffrence :):D

:iagree: however it does highlight the weakness's in the standard suspension too

I'm sooo tempted by a remap, but I'd rather get it to go round corners properly first and then make it go faster into those corners....

yes coil overs next on my list :)

Yeah sort the suspension out first, that's what i did went for koni fsd's, h&r springs, strut brace's, rear arb! Only now i will be getting a remap!:D

hey if u know how to drive you can get remap done first :P

got my re-map done today, and i only have the elegance turbo and you think standard vrs suspension is bad! plan was to sort the chassis first, then re-map, but as is always the case, the desire for more power overshadowed common sense and i succumbed to its evil clutches! goes like stink tho, just don't show it a corner! hey, now i know what it feels like to be a yank!

The standard setup is fine most of the time, but start to push and it scares me a bit. I'm reminded of my old 3.0s Capri in some ways, it had the pace to tick along quite nicely, but on some corners it was a case of "Oh s*@t!" Hang on and pray. It's the same with the vRS as I find that the stopping power and going round the corners well stuff isn't on a par with the speed the car will go.

My desire for more power is always there, but in reality the standard setup isn't good enough to cope when you start to explore the outer boundaries of it's capabilities.

I actually love the standard suspension! It's only bitten me once, but that was me lifting off and being an idiot in the wet. I blame myself and the power steering for that.

I find it to be a nice safe neutral handling car personally. I love how you can balance it on the throttle. Bit of understeer, so lift slightly, car slides out nicely and then grips on again and you can boot it hard then! I love it how it is! But then again, I've only had a trial remap, so not really pushed it with the extra power.

I guess I need a ride in a car with uprated suspension really. That'll probably change my opinion then!

I just love chucking the car about. Best car in the world ever.

I agree the handling is not great. My last car was a Rover 400 and although the handling was average, with only 110bhp the handling and braking was just right for the power.

The Skoda feels like a barge at times, it is SO slow to turn in and can understeer like a b**tard on a track. I think the problem is that the Octy vRS was built to be a fast comfortable cruiser, not a track car (you can get away with something like an Integra or a Civic on a track though).

I'm hoping a rear ARB will help things out a bit, would like coilovers, better tyres and a geo set-up but will take a while to save up :(

I reckon all I could afford would be an ARB. Once that's done though, the car is classified as modded and it has an impact on insurance. I know people say it shouldn't affect the premium, but I am still struggling to get decent quotes for an ARB and a remap.

I'd pretty much agree with Bodge.

Certainly mine is quick to turn in, pretty neutral with slight oversteer in long corners, and if it does understeer, ease (don't lift right off) the throttle, and the nose tucks in again.

Half the problem with mine could have been the front ARB which has just been replaced, it feels a bit tighter now but haven't had the chance to properly throw it through a corner yet.

I don't find understeer an issue at all really unless I slam my foot down mid corner with the ASR off. I do tend to drive more on the slow in fast out approach though so maybe thats why.

I haven't really got the Octy out of shape at all in the time that I've had it but I feel that some changes to the setup might make it a more enjoyable drive. Sometimes mid corner it has a bit of a wobble but not in a way you can really correct. Its just a case of hang on and hope but the car always seems to come out of the corner fine

Mine is put off-line by big bumps that really unload a complete axle, but pretty much anything would twitch on those if you went fast enough over them.

even a slammed octy i have found there is no body roll and you can go full on through the corners but the front end will slide out especilly in the wet when i go to fast i use it as an indicator that im probable goin a bit too fast would a remap on the 1.6 help

i dont really want to get a bigger engine size fuel cost is bad enuff anyways
