vRS engine cough/stutter????

Featured Replies

I've just noticed the past couple of days that the engine on my 05 vRS has a slight cough stutter?? Its when the car is ticking over, every few seconds there seems to be a shudder/cough/stutter from the engine. When i stay stationary and kep the revs at a constant 1200-1300rpm it is even more noticable! You can feel it through the seat and the car shakes a little when it coughs/stutters.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as its very annoying!! The car drives as it should, still has the performance etc, its just bugging me.

Hopefully a Tech knows the answer!!

Have the ECU read for any fault codes. Could be a dirty injector, MAF, EGR, Vacuum leak or Vacuum module.

Great!!! All of those parts sound expensive!!:P

Also, i think its using a wee bit more diesel than my last one??

Dirty fuel filter/air filter?

A faulty EGR valve causes it to use more diesel.

Does it also feel like theres no or very little turbo kicking in?

Try some Forte Diesel Treatment or some Millers Diesel Sport 4 in the tank and see if it improves matters.

Could be EGR related. First thing to do would be to scan for any error codes.

The car drives absolutely fine, plenty of turbo kick etc etc. It just seems to use more diesel than my last vRS and the coughin/stutter/shudder is annoying me!!

I'm going to book it into Skoda, see what they say

Could the EGR cause the stutter?

Ian:)

It's possible, although I'm no expert....

I'd get it scanned before it goes into a dealer though, may save you some time and money...

Update: Went to the dealer today who said no faults appeared but the tech said he reset the ECU. The cough or shudder is still there:thumbdwn: but i'm 100% sure the car is driving smoother because of the ECU reset:confused: Is this possible?? The accelerator seems ALOT more responsive to my input, mm perfect infact, whereas before the accelerator seemed 'heavy' if that makes any sense?? Anyway, i'm away for a decent run to see if the MPG has improved. Also, referring to the 'cage' mod, do i just buy silicone grease (from Maplins) and put a blob on the connectors of the MAF?

Cheers in advance guys, Ian:thumbup:
