Suspension upgrade on 1.8T Elegance

Featured Replies

Well the car has just come back from service. It's been handling like a ship so it was no surprise to find that the front suspension bushes are perished and need replacing or that the shock absorbers and springs are 'tired'.

I'm now looking to replace the above items and thought it'd be a good time to look at lowering the suspension. I think the Elegance sits 30mm higher than the VRS but mine is now 20-30bhp up on the standard VRS so it could do with improving. I still want to be able to go over speed bumps and I'm not looking to attract attention with it being ridiculously low.

So 2 things, what set up/parts does everyone recommend and where stocks them? I'm looking to spend max £400 in total but would prefer to be nearer £300.

It's a 2001 Y reg 1.8T Elegance.

Cheers

OK I've had a few more searches now under various titles and found that for £270 the Koni STR.T kit seems to be fairly popular throughout for the price. Others seem to split opinions so I'll probably go with the majority and get the Konis.

But I cannot find anything decisive about the Front Suspension Arm Bushes. Some threads seem to go along with the view that uprated ones are poor. Whereas others recommend them as an essential mod. Surely uprated ones are better?

So - What parts do I need and where do I get them? Awesome don't seem to stock any Skoda bushes at all.

 Help  Please

Hi

I have PM`d you the info

Powerflex bushes we do shed loads of them

They are the same as the MK4 Golf and have done these on my son`s MK4 Golf to great responses

I must admit , I have seen a couple of issues on the Octy , but not that many and Powerflex are now making the rear wishbone bushes differently

I hope that helps you a bit

Sarah

Hi buddy,

here is what i did on mine

-koni str't kit shocks and springs with new top mounts, bump stops and bearings all oem from skoda. it is a fair bit loweres compared to how it was before and it feels very well.

bushes wise i did the following:

-superpro front wishbone rear and front bushes

*on the front wishbones i honestly think that it's enough to replace just the rear front wishbone bushes with poly ones. i heard quite a few unlucky stories about powerflex bushes on front wishbones so i deicided to go with super pro. I also heard that powerflex redesigned their fornt wishbone rear bushes recently. so it could be better now.

you wont go wrong if you go with oem Leon Cupra R front and rear wishbone bushes as well.

-powerflex stearing rack bush

-superpro anti roll bar and droplinks bushes for 23mm arb ( that's something that you need to measure yourself before buying the bushes)

-Rear beam powerflex bushes

* This was IMHO a big mistake. After i did this the car started to handle much better but the ride became very harsh. To harsh for me as i am coveruing 60 miles/day mostly on b-roads. I did a 1500miles journey in the last few days. It is slightly more settled down now but still very hard.

I would highly recommend you to go with cupra bushes as described in the following thread:

Cupra R Rear Beam Bushes on a MkIv Golf - uk-mkivs

I found it to late unfortunately.

-Both bushes on the dogbone were chandged about 6 months ago. big one was powerflex and the small one superpro.

Exempt those rear beam bushes car feels way better now.

If you need any other particular details like part numbers or so let me know.

I hope it helps

Igor

Should I be changing both front and rear bushes at the same time then? It's only the front that have gone but if it will make much difference I could stretch to both.

It's not absolutely necessary but i think it would make more complete job.

Thats just my opinion though:)
