Bloody central locking (stolen xmas presents!!)

Featured Replies

I cant get over the luck i am getting this year, went to do some xmas shopping with the missus and we left some bags of soon to be presents only to come back to the bloody car and found that the windows were all wound down and every door was unlocked!!!!!!!

It was a bit hit and miss and the car would unlock itself during the night and hasnt done it for a while until we put the stuff on the back seat.

They took clothes, cds, 2 xbox 360 games, DVDs, Fondu set, and digital camera.

BAS***DS. Now it gets even better...(nothing on the cctv) as the cameras on the car park where not working.

We only left the items in the car to go and get a sandwich from one of the local shops.

I just wish i had taken the bloody fuse out now for the central locking but then dont know about why the windows were all down, I have never seen a car do this before and dont know if this is expensive to fix as its proved to be expensive at the moment.

What a joke, who designed the electrics on the MK1 Octy bloody hell what car opens itself!

So if anyone has any symptom of their car unlocking itself make sure you pull the fuses before doing any xmas shopping. :(

Sorry to hear about this. Will this be covered on insurance?

I dont know as I already have one claim from a small bump back in july and there was no sign of forced entry as the car opened itself and wound the windows down.

It could of been worse, last week we bought a nintendo Wii and games for the 2 kids (just glad that wasnt in ther car)

Why do people do this type of thing

Key in back pocket?

ANY damage to drivers door lock (look closely).

I suspect they've used the door lock trick to gain entry. Unless you're is 53 plate or later, then chances are yours is affected by this issue that affects all VAG locks of this age, and all MK1 ford Galaxy's (as Ford used the older lock).

I am just thinking how much this is going to cost to put right as its this time of year and some idiot keyed 2 doors 2 weeks ago and now this.

Heres to 2009

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, christmas is expensive enough without this sort of thing.

In the future I would stick to putting such items in the boot then at least they are out of sight from any would-be opportunists.

I will look at this tomorrow, but i know what your saying, if they have stuck something in the lock and tried to turn it then this may have activated the windows to wind down etc.

cheers

By the way, the person who designed the electrics/security on the mk1 octy.....

are they still with the company ;)

Sorry to hear this. My Octavia has been a real B**** :thumbdwn:  - though hasn't done this to me.

Hope you get it sorted - be careful when your out shopping again.

This time of year thieves stake out car parks looking for people who drop off their shopping, before going back for more.

Either keep it all with you, or keep expensive stuff with you/until last.

Got a quote from the dealer for £787.93 to replace the following,

Both front door membraines, Convianiance ECU, Both Front Door seals and wiring in the drivers front door.

Why would so many things contribute to the doors opening?

And it cost me £ 117.00 to find this out so i am looking at nearly a grand to sort this out... Is there a cheaper way as the car is 11 years old next year.:(

I dont no if it its common but mine does the reverse it locks it self with the keys in the igintion.........

Mines got a sportaic locking fault not sure of the code.......

sorry to hear that, i hope you get it sorted out!!

I might just make do for now taking out the fuse for the central locking, There was no tampering with the locks so maybe they just saw the car with its windows down and doors open and saw an opportunity.

£800 seems a lot to shell out for a 10 year old car, but if it will be fine after this maybe its worth considering.

Its the most reliable car i have ever had, (apart from this ;))

Water gets into the door wiring on the drivers door, corrodes out and knackers the control unit. the water/corrosion dulpicates the unlock signal from the micro switch in the door lock and the car opens, as the signal remains constant it then also drops all the windows (comfort/global closing) leaving the car wide open.

Pretty common on the Octavia 1 now.

I have had this on a MKII Octavia vRS, but suspect it was due to the key fob being

crammed into a key case. Found all windows down and unlocked, but it had p!ssed down

during the night. Joy of joy, at least I never had any loss due to it.....

Why does the octavia suffer from wireing damage from water compared to other makes.

Is it a design issue that was ironed out for the next models up from the first MK1

Thanks guys

Apparently, it is a common thing in the Mk4 Golf too. Some on here have been able to fix the connector and loom in the drivers door, especially if the pins are not completely shot.

Hi Justinbarrow,

It is so bad that this has happened to you before the Christmas. Did you have these things in the trunk of the car, or in view of thieves?

My Octavia MK1 has had various problems also with central locking system, and I agree that the design and reliabiabilty is not so good with them. It is very bad that the cameras here were not working, and maybe the thieves are knowing this and targeting this car park. And so when it is next the busy shopping time, you could hide yourself and see if they are trying the same thing to other persons car, and get the picture on camera.

Not good.

Check your drivers side lock for any sort of damage or maybe a screwdriver being put in it.

EDIT: see you did that already.

I'd give it a go cleaning up all the connections and if you succeed then pack the connection with silicon di-electric grease (not silicon sealant).

Is that about 25-30 seconds after you have opened it?

If so does the red light on the drivers door flash when you lock it?

I get the impression your car has a sticky switch in the lock and doesn't realise it's been opened so will lock itself again. It will relock if you open the car and don't open the front doors or boot within a time limit. This is a designed feature, so if your lock is sticky then there is a issue.

Sorry to hear of your problems.

Had similar problem with my 04 vRS, water runs down wires on drivers door and corrodes plug on control unit. New control unit is modified so plug connects underneath and no water can get in. £375 for new control unit fitted so would go somewhere else for another quote. Hope this helps Cheers.

I have a freind at a scrap yard who has just taken an insurance write off in, its an s reg octavia, same colour and trim as mine but its a disel.

What bits do i need off it to sort our this central locking problem with the doors opening when they feel like it.

He said no one can touch it until wednesday till the insurance stuff has gone through and says that i can have first choice on what ever i need

I think i need the following....

Conveinance Unit

Drivers Wiring Loom

Drivers Door Controll Moduale

Or is this going over the top...its just that i can get these bits and want to iron out the fault without spending hundreds of pounds.

Finally would these be ok off a diesl and am i right in thinking they will be ok for my octy which is the same year just mine is petrol.

Thanks everyone
