Pollen filter housing seal repair.

Featured Replies

Found this info on WWW for Passat. I have obtained the plastic sealing cord from local VW Dealer £30 and my Skoda Dealer will fit tomorrow and also remove rubber bungs from Plenum chamber. I hope this prevents any real water ingress issues.

"plastic sealing cord"? the seal under the housing is rubber that is self adhesive on one side, the problem is it is cr@p. Remove the seal and put a nice thick (15mm) bead of silicone sealant in the groove where the seal used to sit, job done.

The new seal will only leak again over time.

The original gasket is foam and looks pathetic and no wonder it breaks down and leaks.

The stuff I have bought is about 12mm thick (Rubber) and it is shaped in a "D". The flat edge has to be inserted into the recess in the housing. VW garage say they have had no issues with any mods done this way. I had to park round the corner and say I had a Passat for the Service guy to discuss this method with me. The first VW garage i went to saw the superb and just flatly refused to discuss the problem or even offer any advice including confirmation of the Information Bulletin. Even though i had it and it is plastered with VW logo's and names and tel numbers (which I removed before posting - just in case as it says this info should not be shared). Tuff.

:+1:

Is it a Word 2007 file that's had it's extension truncated?

Thanks Tom - job done at garage and again I am very happy with the way my Dealer has completed this. I watched for over 3hrs whilst he dismantled, removed bungs (virtually fully blocked - especially under servo) and did the mod as per VW. He also used Silicon as well as the putty VW part. Could smell it all the way home - got high!!!

had them lift carpet and check - bone dry thank god.

Regards

John

I can recommend this VW part as well as Silicon.

PS - if you have a problem opening the attachment just keep clicking cancel if it is trying to download and then when Windows asks if you want to open or save it click open and then keep clicking cancel to any download request. It does eventuall open.

The attachment opens - it's just that it's full of code-like gibberish with not an understandable word in sight. :thumbdwn:

The full version on the other thread is OK though

As long as the pdf works fine its not a problem ;)
