Fabia VRS HU upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi first post here - I want to upgrade the standard head-unit in my new Fabia to something ipod compatible. Is this HU any good Sony CDX GT50UI CD / MP3 / USB Tuner - CDX-GT50UI from Sony. I'm not after anything too fancy, but am a bit of an audiophile so want a good sound. Also when I input it into halfords, it comes up as needing not only a wiring loom adaptor and fascia plate but also an antenna adaptor - is that necessary or are Halfords just trying to screw you out of an extra tenner. On that note is there anywhere cheaper to get the fitting accessories??

Finally will the speakers in an 06 Fabia vrs be compatible with this HU, it mentions a 75w minimum in the specs. They seem pretty reasonable speakers to my ears, if only the door trim would stop rattling with heavy bass! Any tips on fixing that too!?

Cheers :)

Cheers

dont buy from halfords

buy from the net much cheaper

also wouldnt bother with sony, very ovverated stuff nowadays.

Pioneer, Alpine, much better.

Welcome to briskoda.

You will need an adaptor for the facia, best buy from skoda as they are cheaper than Halfords.

Have a look a Stu's website for more info.

Mm, yeah now I remember not hearing good things about sony's car audio stuff. I'm liking the reviews on these two, not 100% sure I can work out the difference between them:

Pioneer DEH-P6000UB CD / MP3 Player, iPod direct connection - DEH-P6000UB from Pioneer

Pioneer DEH 50UB CD tuner with iPod direct control, USB, Aux in - DEH-50UB from Pioneer

I'm pretty sure I'll never go crazy with car audio, at the most possibly better speakers, but not amps and subs etc. I take it the cheaper pioneer is probably more suited to me?

what about this antenna adaptor? And don't worry I've learnt better than to buy from Halfrauds!

You'll likely need one. Powers the signal booster built into the base of the Fabia's aerial. Without one you will likely have little to no reception (depending on the area you live in).

And don't bother with the wiring loom adaptor, it only takes up valuable

space when you can do the simple yellow/red wire switch yourself. Do a search instead, this topic has been covered to death and you'll find all the info you need with a simple search. Good luck.

Hi first post here - I want to upgrade the standard head-unit in my new Fabia to something ipod compatible.

Me too, so I did - to an Alpine iDA-X300, which was about the same price. The difference is astonishing, I'm well happy with the sound for now.

I didn't add anything like an antenna booster or similar connection, I even removed the remote auto antenna feed from the Alpine connector loom, since I didn't know what the corresponding connector was for on the car.

Do the yellow/red (ign.live/perm.live) switch over with the supplied Alpine loom - easy.

I went for the X300 instead of the X100 because 1. I'm skint, 2. The sound is about as good, 3. I don't actually have an iPod!! so album art isn't a factor. I'm using USB flash stick in the glovebox - easy!

Good luck, speakers and separate amp next... after Xmas!
