Is this a good deal?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Just wondering what you guys think of this..... Have been looking around for a while to buy an Octy 1.9tdi. We test drove an ambiente, but noticed an elegance in a dealer a few miles away. Its an 08 plate, with 9500 miles. It has the 17" alloys, along with steering mounted controls (which includes maxi-dot I understand) and has a 6 cd autochanger.... The price is 12500, but we have haggled them down to 12200.

What do you think then, good deal, or should we try and get them down a bit more?

Thanks!

Not dis-similar to my 4x4, which cost close to 20K in August!! Sounds reasonable.

I am always concerned about a newish vehicle being for sale so soon, in case it is a lemon. If you can satisfy yourself that there was a genuine reason for the sale then you would need to compare it with the discounted price you can get on a brand new equivalent car.

Being in Oz I have no idea of what is a reasonable price in the UK, but I get the impression there are some bargains to be had in the UK at the moment, particularly if you don't have a trade-in or px vehicle).

With that mileage I would think it has been an ex hire car that has been de fleeted. That's not a problem at all if it checks out ok. I would think the price is still too much.I would have thought £11k would be generous. Compare the price with ones at Motorpoint quite likely to have come from the same source.

I was at Stanstead in Jan and some of the hire car companies had fleets of Octavias the suppliers name on the number plates was Camden Group i seem to remember.

Found this on CSMA site higher milage perhaps but a pretty good warranty although this will have remainder of Skoda warranty. I would also imagine there is always a wee bit of negotiation available on price.

I would have a look at Motorpoint as advised. The link below gives a good idea of what is available - tho it is a 57 plate with 15000 miles but in a nice colour!

I think that is fair deal ,I bought my Octy Ambiente DSG est, pre-registered ,last year in December for £13,000.4,500 miles , got them to include Road Tax as well ,would not haggle for a tank full of fuel tho'. Then they offered me A Finace deal coz I had the readys!

I wouldnt recommend Fred Arnell, but I was at Mitchells skoda recently and they have a 2.0 tDI with DSG Ambient spec 50 miles for little more than that. Less than £13k anyway.
