Has anyone with a new Superb seen this?

Featured Replies

I've got a couple of problems with my new Superb, and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen them also.

Some of these will only apply to folks with a rain sensor, and the upgraded audio.

1) In the MFD setup, there is an option for auto rain closing. You get a little tick in the box to show that it's enabled. On mine, the option doesn't stay enabled (ticked) across restarts of the car. So, I enable it, turn the ignition off and on, go back to the menu and it's disabled again.

2) When I'm playing an MP3 from either CD, DVD, SD or HDD, the tags are supposed to be displayed in the MFD display under the Audio submenu. On my car, quite often it simply says 'Skoda Navigation' in the Audio display. Again, if I turn the ignition on and off, the problem clears itself and the tags start displaying again.

3) A really annoying vibration from the NSF door panel around the bass driver. It only happens at certain frequencies, and pushing gently on the door trim stops it.

Has anyone else seen any of these problems on their cars?

I've got it booked into the supplying dealer on Friday, but I'd be interested to see if this is happening for anyone else.

Thanks,

Bagpuss.

Hi

Same thing with the rain closing. Don't have the upgraded audio.

Ah, but at least I've got mine.

Anyway, if it weren't for folks like me, they'd never fix things for you late arrivals at the party. :D

So far, every Superb Elegance I've seen has the rain closing problem, so I reckon your car will probably be the same.

what does it mean "rain closing" dont understand ?

what does it mean "rain closing" dont understand ?

cant be driven in the rain :D

cant be driven in the rain :D

no - silly, thats a rear wheel drive BMW

the rain closing will be set to "once only" for H+S reasons... in case you leave child / dog in car and it then rains and shuts them in.

so does it auto close the windows or lock the doors or is it for the sunroof ?

If any windows and/or the sunroof are open, it closes them if rain is detected.

It also closes the windows after a certain time period (8 hours, I think) if any are left often after the car is locked.

waste of time for me. I never open my windows except to pay the toll bridge man on the way into lincolnshire (yep - we cahrge you 30p to get into this wonderful county - unless you drive 25 miles to the next river crossing which is free !)

Yup, same here.. Haven't bothered to RTFM, so no clue if it was supposed to happen. Can understand the H&S issue over it though (although I'd have thought it would make more sense to have it toggled depending on whether you'd hit the internal alarm over-ride switch by the drivers door - if active, disable the rain clising, otherwise assume alarm will be triggered by child in the back seat climbing out the open window)

Have seen this as well - Suspect it is an issue with ID3 tags, but not investigated further.

Ho hum, seen (or rather heard) this as well. My advice would be to quit playing classical music, and change to some trance or techno. That should cure the vibration (or destroy the plastic )

Without wishing to sound negative, I think you'll be living with all 3 of these as "features" of the car.The ID3 tags you can fix yourself, but is a pain to do (from memory, the touch screen works fine, it's only the maxidot that displays incorrectly)

I'd be interested to know what the dealer says though.

It's definitely a bug, as you can't tell whether it's turned on or off if the tick isn't persistent when it's enabled. Also, my previous vRS had this feature, and the tick would remain when rain closing was enabled.

It's not an issue with the tags, as they always display correctly on the Columbus screen. It's the communication between the Columbus and the MFD that's getting messed up. If you turn the ignition off and on, then the same tags start to display properly. I do have some files with ID3v2.4 tags (which the Columbus doesn't support), but the unit then displays the filename on both the touchscreen and in the MFD.

Sadly, it happens with trance and techno, just as much as it does with classical. I'll admit it's not quite so easy to hear when the rest of the car is vibrating too :D

I kind of expect issues with things like this. It's the price you pay for being an early adopter. I do expect Skoda to fix them, though. If my iPod didn't display MP3 tags properly, I'd expect Apple to fix it, so I don't see why Skoda shouldn't do the same.

I'd be interested to know what the dealer says though.

As will I. I'll report back once they've taken a look.

Any news about the rain closing issue?I have this bug too...

This is probably the cause of your problems Jon, you boasted out at Bagpuss :D and Bagpuss then sent you a hex on your car in retaliation, and the rest is history as they say ;)

you can go off people you know !! :)

interestingly i too have the rain closing issue as well

Every single new Superb has the rain closing issue.

I think it's why Skoda have been fobbing me off, as they simply don't want to fix it. I keep getting told that this is how it's meant to work.

I've pointed out that the Octy doesn't work this way, and that the rain closing in the Superb doesn't actually work at all, as you can't turn it on.

I'm guessing that whatever software is responsible for this isn't flash upgradeable by the dealership. Which presumably means they'd need to replace parts, which equals expensive if everyone wants it done.

Bagpuss.

Well,it looks like the rain-closing is working as it should.

I received an email from the factory service in Czech.

"Dear Mr. Mahut Alexandru,

we have received your email, in which you are asking us for information concerning your vehicle Škoda Superb II.

The rain closing function is only active in case when the setting on the Maxi-Dot information display in your car is turned on

and the car is locked. This function can be set up for one use only. It is impossible to set up that into the permanent mode.

For regeneration of this function you have to active rain closing mode again."

Yep. That's exactly what I was told, which I think is a load of crap.

The whole point of rain closing is for it to shut the windows if you accidentally leave them open when walking away from the car.

Quite honestly, I think the default should be for it to be always on, but it can be disabled if you are leaving an animal in the car (so the windows don't close, and the dog etc. doesn't get baked).

Why they've changed this, I really don't know. I just want it to work the way my Octy did.

Bagpuss.

I agree with you...it's like we should predict the rain,so that we will activate the rain closing.I asked them for some explanations, but no answer yet.

Safety first. Presumably just in case the sensor goes wrong (or it rains and you forgot to disable it) and your dog or child cooks, but then why not just disable it with the internal alarm sensor button. The mind boggles.

In case the sensor goes wrong, there will be a trouble code and the sensor will be disabled.

Disableing it with the alarm it's not an option because not everyone has alarm.

And,tbh, you have to be stupid to leave your dog/child that much in your car.

I think you would be silly to leave the windows or the sunroof open anyhow , come back and find a big hole where the sat nav used to be and you are on your own , insurance wont pay out

Its not a feature i would ever use to be honest

I don't consider myself being silly if I leave my car with a window opened in the summer in my own yard ;)
