Which of these is the Switched Live? (Dance HU)

Featured Replies

Which of these is the switched live? I have installed a Bury CC9060 bluetooth unit (with help from Fluffmeister) and it works fine, but at the minute its always on, i know i need to use a switched live, but have no idea which wire is which.

dont think this unit has a switched live, only a battery feed and its switched on by the can bus

Yep, Safe and +/UB are both perm lives.

You'll need to take a feed from the fuse box. Had to do the same for my Dad on his Mk2 Fabia estate. Unfortunately I can't remember which wire I tapped.

The pin CDC (with a switch icon under it) is a switched live or atleast is in Stream, but I don't think Dance differs too much.

It starts to feed as soon as the radio is turned on. You can check it with a multimeter easily.

But if you don't have the radio on... you don't have hands free phone.

Can't imagine that being a problem, don't think my radio has ever been off when i've been in the car.

I wouldn't advise using the CDC. This will be a low current supply switched by components on the radio mainboard. IMHO this would not be suitable for powering anything more than the CD changer it was designed to.

Very true. But couple of my friends have their extra amplifier connected to this pin and never had any problems. So I don't think it will be a problem.

Even not knowing the power impact I can pretty much say for sure that the CDC will be more heavier on the load side than a bluetooth handsfree.

I don't really see the point of taking the risk, it is easy to take a cable from the fuse panel.

Very true.

But just to elaborate a little bit more on this subject.

I haven't seen the schematics for either of these radios so I cannot say for sure how the switched live is done on these.

But on many aftermarket radios the switched live is actually straight from a voltage feed to radio itself. It's just routed through a relay. This way the switched live is not a low current output only.

If there's a voltage regulator or anything similar to regulate the output voltage, then it's most likely a low current output.

From which fuse would you recommend taking the supply then? something that is 10A and only comes on after ignition i presume? I have used a specific VAG quadlock for the Bury so i presume i would use the wire from the fuse box to replace the wire going into the quadlock that is a permy live.

But these are not after market radios, and are canbus driven/controlled. As mentioned before... there is no switched live. Only two permi lives. The unit is told via the databus that the ignition has been turned on.

Daa.. I know that. But the units have permanent live.

If you read my post a little bit more carefully you'll see I never mentioned these radios have switched live input? Did I?

I said that most aftermarket radios route their output switched live from voltage feed input. And I meant permanent voltage input.

I thought the Fabia II didn't have CANBUS? Hence the lack of MFD functions.

I'm pretty sure Fabia II is a CANBUS equipped car.

Roomster is. It shows the same audio info on Maxidot as Octavia II.

Also Dance HU is through CANBUS operated so it wouldn't work without one... :)

What MFD functions are you missing exactly?

I wouldn't suggest using an already in use fuse and certainly not a 10amp one. In the fuse panel there will be live busbars above empty slots, use a multimeter to fnd one that is switched and then insert a repair wire into the empty slot. This then gives you a factory like fused installation and you can slot in something like a 3amp fuse.
