Proposed changes to F1 points system.

"Gold, silver and bronze medals would be given to the top three finishers.

Regardless of the distribution of those medals, the driver who won most races would be crowned world champion. "

Is it just me that thinks this is total nonsense?

It would mean that for the majority of races , most teams and drivers would score nothing , and for a lot of the time they may as well not bother turning up.

No

They need to stop messing about with stupid rules and get the cars overtaking each other

No overtaking = BORING

Why bother with the race anyway they should just do 3 pit stops and take an average time and that's the winner

The only points mod I would like to see is the American style of an extra point for the Pole sitter.

I hope the introduction of Slicks (more mechanical grip) less fiddly bits of bodywork (less aero grip) and this funny regenerative boost button thingy will mean more overtaking.:)

That and also an extra point for fastest lap.

Personally, I think they should go back to the older style where there was no pit stops unless you had a problem, you were fueled for the race and you had to conserve your tyres to last. F1 now has become more about tactics than racing.

I agree with all of that:thumbup:

Back in the day, though, it used to be a happy medium between stragetic pitting and actual racing, didn't it? I seem to remember watching it as a kid and enjoying it!

There was no mention of Ferrari being awarded extra race wins for being in a red car :D

Don't worry, it'll be in the small print :D

On a serious note, it wasn't that long ago they changed the points system to give more points & down to eighth place IIRC, "to make it more competative"

& stop someone having one or two bad results losing the championship / give other drivers the chance to win some points.

Could it be that Bernie didn't like Lewis & Mclaren winning the drivers crown & is now trying to stop them winning it next year:rolleyes::rolleyes: surely not.:rofl:

Dear ********,

Bernie is an old man. Clearly he's going senile or something. Someone should kick him from whatever position he is because he's just too stupid to be the head of F1. There are plenty of suggestions people and teams have proposed that would make sense and also make F1 enjoyable but he's just too stubborn and then enforces his own rules. Kinda like our government here...

******** sincerely,

********!

The BTCC manage to have a points system that rewards individual race success as well as emphasising the need to be consistently high scoring.

That's the sort of thing they should look to , rather than have a system where the teams can effectively burn out their two-race engines in the first race and then write off the next one and still win the championship

I think Bernie is a little grumpy as his wife is probably going after half his fortune in the divorce settlement. Over 1 Billion quid!!!!! Will probably be the biggest ever settlement in the UK

His wife owns F1 on paper, so what the dwarf says carrys no weight anymore.

Do you think she holds it over his head so he can’t’ reach up to it?

Yes his latest idea is a complete load of sh!te in my opinion. How would this idea help them to overtake? Especially if, say, the rule changes wern't to happen.

I too would like to see a point for fastest lap and pole. And I also feel the rule changes will see more overtaking. Bring on the driver skill.

How long does it take them to realise that

More mechanical grip + lots of excess Horsepower – aerodynamic downforce = overtaking and fun

Also, teams lower down the order that got points were helped financially with transportation, etc.

Bernie has obviously got the hump over his (soon to be ex) wife opening his wallet and helping herself to £1billion  (mind you, I'd find that pretty galling too!)

I have always thought they should remove the wings, raise the ride hight and make the tyres a bit narrower and harder.

It may not get them overtaking but if the cars are sliding and moving around a bit at least it'll be more interesting than the big scaletrics set that it is now.

Either that or scrap the rules altogether. Let them run a 12l V22 with 4 superchagers, nos and 6 wheel drive if they like.

i agree with all of that:thumbup:

I'm not so sure that's a good idea myself.

For drivers to feel confident enough to attempt an overtake they need to know what the car will do in response , and also know how their manouever fits in with the rules.

At the moment the cars are hard enough to keep on the road even in the dry and reducing grip will lead to more one-vehicle-mistakes and accidents when overtaking *is* attempted , and with the way the rules are enforced concerning "incidents" that's effectively giving the stewards the power to choose the winner for even more races.

They reduced the points differential between 1st and 2nd when Scumacher was running away with it. Now there isn't enough reward for the win and the total available in any one race. Make it 12pts for a win and keep the others the same. Big incentive for the win whilst ensuring that it's still a fair system. Why oh why must they keep ****ing around with the formula?

What would the driver standings have been this season with this system? Who would have won?

Massa would have won if they used the medals system

I think the question was rhetorical ;)

Ah :o

 It wasn't, I did need to ask
