Whos Engine is it?

Featured Replies

I Have just upgraded my girlfriends 1.3 Gli Felicia to a 1.4 8v Fabia comfort and have been trying to find out about the engine.

Have searched this site, which is great and has lots info but am having trouble applying it.

I always thought that the Felicia engine was a pre VW "Skoda" unit and that the Fabia would be a VW unit but searching the site alot of reported faults and the specifications appear to be the same. i am confused by the 8v being a timing chain and 16v being a belt.

Why so many choises??????

The 1.4 MPI (8V) I believe is Skoda's engine and the 1.4 16v is from Audi

Yep, the 1.4 8V in the fabia is the only engine in the fabia that comes from skoda... it is, in fact out of a... you guessed it, a felicia, think it dates back to the 1980s ish? someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Isn't it the 3 cylinder Felicia engine with another cylinder bolted on?

As far as I know, its the felicia engine, just updated MPi instead of CFi and bored out slightly bigger. Slight differences to timing system I beleive too, timing chains and sprockets aren't compatible across the 1.3 and 1.4 ranges.

The motor itself is/was manufactured by siemens. Bulletproof pushrod design dating back to the early 1900's, the 93,000 mile engine in the girlfriends fabia still works and doesn't burn oil.

Dave.

The 1.4 8v MPI is an bored out version of the old 1.3 8v

AFAIK there was never a 3 cyl engine in a Felicia. That came with the Fabia 1.2 unit.

The Fabias 1.4 8v unit is a Skoda modified Skoda engine from the Felicia just uprated to 1.4 instead of the Felicias 1.3 capacity. So will have the timing chain

The 1.4 16v is a VW engine and has a timing/cambelt.

There is no power difference between the two engines (68bhp each) but the torque is higher in the 1.4 (89 lb/ft) compared to the 1.3 (79 lb/ft)

My engine would seem to suggest this, I have the 1.4Mpi and I have been told before that it can be used and abused all day long before something gives up, hard as nails. Although, as i'm finding out, it's the electrics that seem to go mental...

Thanks for answeing that, its amazing what difference a plastic cover makes to the look of it. In a way i'm pleased because the old felicia never caused a problem except for the common thermostat housing fault.

many thanks for info.
