Megane 225 For Sale Thread - Discussion

Featured Replies

I'll try and dig out the Evo edition and see, think it mentioned costs and it was a 225 they tried :)

I'd reckon on 2k or so, and you could either have a tank behind the back seats, or pop a smaller one in the spare wheel well.

Steve

The one in Evo had the tank in the spare wheel well, online quotes I've had in teh past have ranged from £1500-£2000. I pretty sure someone on here paid £1250 recently to have an Octy or Superb done.

I think the article in Evo was dubbed Eco, the Megane was cheaper per mile than the likes of a 123d. It was in this one..

If I know which edition number, I can go hunting. And the front cover on there doesn't help me, as the subscriber ones always look much nicer :D

It was only June though, so not too far back. I'll go have a look....

Steve

Dont Renault do a 170TDi Megane ?

Yeah they do a Megane 175 dci (as steve said) i had a test drive in one a few weeks ago but i was abit disappointed to be honest. It looked very similar to mine inside and out (very hard to tell its a diesel model) but it didn’t go any were near as good as mine & it had no engine note, almost silent inside.

The engine is very refined alot quieter than the VAG PD diesels & it is very smooth when accelerating but it lacked the punch of a PD engine. The handling and brakes were great and with a remap it wouldn’t be to far behind mine but I’d be comparing it all the time to my 225 and to be fair you cant beat the sound and excitement of a good petrol turbo.

Yep, quite agree with you Paul. Looks the business I think, but you'll never get that engine note back :(

Plus Evo run one as a long termer and MPG is in the high 30s! Granted they'll give it some punishment, but I like to see their test results as an indication of real world 'enthusiast' use :)

Steve

LPG's an idea but at 2k its abit expensive it would take alot of miles to get that back! Also dont you lose abit of power when using LPG?

  • Author

Too true, think the grants that were available have dried up too. You shouldn't loose power really. LPG MPG will be pretty low, feeding a 2.0T I would have thought, but it is cheap!

Steve

I can't remember Evo mentioning anything about loss of power when running LPG while on test. Subura offer it as a dealer fit option on quite a few of their cars.

I'm sure if you shop around you can find a competitive quote for an LPG conversion, and just think you get to keep that lovely petrol turbo noise etc. :D

If my ST had room for a tank I'd of seriously considered getting it done.

Yeah i spotted that in EVO, i think its only suppose to do about 44mpg combined anyway.

I read the issue with the 175dci vrs Focus ST and it almost had identical times round the track. It just shows you how good of a chassis the Meg has.

I might look into LPG. Whats the price of it now?

49.9ppl around here.. it does list it on petrolprices.com

Thanks pal... just worked out it would cost me about £26 to fill up with LPG and i normally get around 300 miles to a tank, so i would say it works out cheaper than running a derv!

Evo worked it out to around 25p per mile on LPG, much cheaper than all the diesels in the same test. Not sure how big the lpg tanks are off hand, can't see you getting quite the same range but you can fill up both tanks for long journeys. :D

Tax is pretty much fixed on LPG until 2011 as well IIRC. :D

Where the hell is that test?! I've got Issue 118 in front of me, which covered alternative fuels, but can't see the test. Am I going blind?

Came across that same ST vs. dCi test you mention while I was looking as well, in 119. Only .2 slower round Bedford, not bad going at all

Steve

A 192 wouldn't be very common at all! Some would say unique ;)

Good luck with the sale Paul - lovely motor and one of the best colours I think

Steve

But they look terrible compared tto the 182 !

  • Author

I was actually pointing to the fact that you might mean a 197 instead! :)

And I'm afraid I can't agree on the looks department, even including the 182 Trophy. Plus the build quality and cabin fitment are in a different league.

Steve

I have to agree wardy, the fit and finish of both the Megane and the 197 is so much different to the 172/182s that they may as well be made by different manufacturers imo.

Put it this way, l'd never have spent my own hard earned cash on a 172/182 purely out of build issues seen on a friends 182, but l've had both a 225 and a 197 and had fewer issues than nearly all my other cars (some VAG included). You've just got to treat them right! think alot of the improvements in build have come from the collaboration with Nissan.

Love the Trophy. Its a proper car and the colour is superb. Best of luck with the sale. :)

Thanks Pal:thumbup:

Have to agree with you and steve on the 197 looks better and has much better build quailty.

Don't you think it looks like the 197 has been at the pies abit though?

I really like the Sport Meganes... but couldn't convince SWMBO not even with the 5dr in the burnt orange colour.

The 197 does have a few chunky areas.

I class them as hips and hips are sexy:D
