My dealer says its the remap!

Featured Replies

to blame for my extreme fuelling/smoking symptoms.

The ECU shows no faults and everything is hunky dorey with pipework and connections... So...

... I need to refit my original ECU that came with my car! This isn't really annoying but after driving around with 154BHP for a long time, going back to 105ish is gonna be tough.

The upshot of this though is the fuelling thing disappears with the original ECU fitted, and I'll give it a good test ;) then this means my remap on the chipped ECU has gone a little a.w.o.l and a return to Jabbasport may be in order! :(

I'm gonna bide my time until I can verify everything with the car is totally fine with the unchipped ECU, but it sounds like I may have to have en extended weekend before TRAX and get Mike to look at the chip in the ECU in the car now and see if anything has gone wrong. I'm not too pleased with this possibility, but at least I'm hoping with my original ECU the car will at least be running as it came out the factory.

More to come. :)

Oh dear,

Let's hope this is the answer this time :)

yeah fingers crossed you get to the bottom of it soon.

Wonder if it is the remap or is the dealer just stuck for an answer? Not heard of anyone else having problems after being Jabba'd (or indeed any other remap). If it is the remap why has it taken all these weeks for the problem to arise?

Interesting to see what happens once you get the std ECU back on the car.

Awaiting the outcome with interest

Thanks for the thoughts - I guess the dealer had nowhere to go after the ECU threw up no more faults, apart from blame all the aftermarket stuff. I only hope they're bloody right, or I will NOT be happy!

Good luck Jason - and there's nowt wrong with 105bhp :P Think of the economy ;)

I guess 105BHP ain't too bad... I'm just letting the engine cool down after my nightmarish drive home from the dealer... Bloody thing would hardly boost at all AND it was chucking out smoke every time I tried to go accelerate even slightly... :(

I'm getting itchy feet now - come on! COOL DOWN ENGINE! :D

Daft question Jason.

Have you had a word with Mike @ JabbaSport yet ?

Daft question Jason.

Not daft at all. :D

But, no... Waiting until I verify the car runs perfect with the original ECU, then there will be a phone call made... Something tells me a "remap" can't go wrong - but the piece of equipment (ECU) I guess can go wrong and maybe this is what has happened?

Won't know until later on tonight though when I've got the ECU in... god, these diesels engine retain heat for some time! :D

You might be on to something with the faulty ECU idea.

This was the ECU from the crashed car wasnt it ?

Yup - recoded immobiliser code to allow to work with my dashboard and car. :D

Well.. OEM ECU is back in the car - was pretty chuffed at how easy it swapped over given how fiddly it is to get that bottom plug undone! BUT it started pi55ing down then as I put the bonnet down so have retreated - will test later on! :D

Is starting to sound like a dodgy ECU. Especially seen as it came from your old car Jason. ;)

That's where i was heading..

Could be 1001 things wrong now we've got hot weather.

Crack in the board expanded by heat, dodgy chip, bad connection etc etc etc

Tis official - The ECU is in some way faulty... Now forgive me for saying this but what can it be...? Is it like an amplifier where one little circuit can go a bit AWOL and thereby cause problems... I have every faith that NO damage at all was done to my ECU in the crash - certainly never sustained any impact/water ingress... and its been running in my car fine, Jabba'd, since around March when it was enabled to fit.

BUT at least at the moment I have a working stock TDI Fabia, which doesn't smoke and runs sweet as a nut... Its just I was climbing the 1 in 4 hill up to my house, booted it and not much happened. :( I'm gonna miss that torque in the short run! BUT I won't f***ing miss that smokey graunchy fuelling thing...!

Time to call Mike at Jabbasport and see what can be done.

Anyone know where to get another ATD PD100 engine ECU? I'm gonna need one pretty damn quick for some future plans.... (mr Ffelan! :D;))

edit: just read your post, geoff.... could be.

Jason, I think that that wreck of yours had a few hidden problems... Noticed and not complaining that the air box I got from you seemed to have suffered a lot of water ingress in its life, not just storage. So wonder if the car at sometime in its life took a dunkin or stored in a damp atmosphere before you got it.......

Hmmm. damp atmosphere storage might be a possibility, but it never got dunked and I had it from new. I can only assume I may have left the tarpaulin over the wreck a little slack and it got a bit damp on a windy rainy night. :( The airbox didn't get removed until the engine was whipped out too.

Just had the mother of all storms here just now and in rain like that I wouldn't be surprised if some has worked its way into my engine bay ;)

ever thought that it might not be the remap at fault but something thats failing under the extra boost that a non mapped car wouldn't ?

the thought has passed through my mind, I gotta admit. But there was nothing wrong with the boost at 100% - it was just it was doing this thing at low revs, say from standing in first and from 1500rpm+ in 2nd... (smoking out the car behind me in traffic :D) If I managed to battle through to over 2500 revs it would sometimes boost perfectly fine and clear. I dunno why though?

Now its back to normal though (as normal as being not remapped can be ;)) it has the old levels of boost, is clean and crisp through the rev range too, with no lumpiness.

I may need to start looking for a spare ATD PD100 ECU soon though. I need to have two working ones. :(

Most people are happy with just the one!:D
