Hey all, what do you think to this Toshiba Regza 26" LCD HD TV

Featured Replies

Been looking at this tv, and not knowing alot about LCD TV's the only thing thats really got me baffled is the 30000:1 Contrast Ratio.

Comparing this to other tv's would blind most of them, the higher it is i presume the better?

Anyone what are your views on the tv in the link below?

Im mainly looking at hooking it to my HDMI Gfx Card, and using it for my DVD's and Movies.

Also practicing flying rc models on my simulator would be brill.

Contrast ratios, yes the higher the better, BUT different manufacturers measure it in dfferent ways so it cannot be used as a reliable measure.

The TV you linked to is not Full HD, the screen res is 1366x768 which is less than most PC monitors. As long as you dont mind huge text when hooked up to the PC then it should be OK, using a HD resolution will give you a blurred picture on a PC. You also really want one where you can turn overscan off, so that you can get a 1:1 pixel map otherwise your windows desktop will be to big for the screen.

So what sort of resolution should i be looking at for Full HD?

1920x1080

The 30000:1 listed here will be a dynamic ratio, manufacturers will often show this to make the figures look higher, the figure you should be looking out far is the static ratio, normally 5-10k. The contrast ratio is the ability of the panel to show black, as the screens emit light they effectively have to 'create' black. The screens contrast ratio is the ability to create this 'fake' black. The Holy Grail would be a contrast ratio of infinity:1, this would mean when the parts of the screen are black they are emitting no light.

If you going to spend what is not a small amount of money on a tv i recommend you spend a few minutes reading one of the thousands of online guides about tv's. Then at least you will have a better idea of what you're buying and what you might want from your tv.

As Mannyo has mentioned this TV isn't Full HD, its only 720p or (1080i) instead of 1080p which is 'full' HD, but on a 26" tv you would have to be hard pressed to notice any difference between the two.

I've been told by a very reliable source that the 1080p will give a worse picture quality than 720p on screens below a certain size (32 or 36" I think was the one give). Reason given was the pixel boundaries make up more of the screen.

Thanks all for the input, my room isn't particulaly big you see.

So was looking into something up to 26" with a stand that can fold flat to the wall when done with.

Hello Browny, you don't mention a budget so my personal recommendation

would be the Panasonic TX-26lxd80.

It's a little dearer than the Toshiba, is also not 'Full HD' but I don't think there

are any lcd tv's manufactured below 32" that are, pc screens maybe, but not

Tv lcd screens.

Take a look on www.panasonic.co.uk for spec, then www.avforums.co.uk for

user experiences, you can utilise the 'search' facility for that, or any other model,

without having to join up, just asks you to do a simple verification task.

Hope that helps.:)

Apparently this little Samsung is pretty good too and in the same price bracket:

I'm quite tempted by its 37" big brother when I have the funds to replace my Sister's loaned Matsui 20" 4:3 ration CRT box!

I would highly recommend the Samsung! I've got the LE32A456, great looking unit and great spec for the price, got mine for Β£360 from Richersounds.

Thanks ppl!

Some nice looking TV's there, i was looking at around Β£300-Β£350 maximum.

But not entirely sure i will be purchasing one, i stand looking at some of these LCD tv's in supermarkets and shops and feel there not particulaly worth the money there asking for.

Can seem rather pixelated and blocky.

Think i will just wait till after christmas and wait for the sales.

I wouldnt expect anything magical in the way of sales.

The stores are on their knees as it is. Last years were crap.

Yea, didn't think of it that way haha!

Maybe new gear out in jan that pushes price of old gear down? lol

The way the shops set them up in store with poor quality distributed signals, etc., it's a wonder anyone buys one!

Having recently purchased one myself, I spent a fair bit of time with various picture settings at home, until I arrived at a setting that looks considerably better than anything I saw in-store.

Best bet is to find a store where they will let you play around with the settings with a decent signal. Also have a browse around some forums (avforums.com for one) and see what other owners think of a particular model.

No idea about the Tosh panel, but another vote for Panasonic here... I bought a TX-26LMD70 back in Jan for one of my smaller rooms and apart from the usual draw backs of LCD sets I'm pretty impressed with it. Cost be about Β£400 from Amazon.

I have the 32'' version which I bought a year or so ago, and been more than happy with it. Easy set up, good picture, pretty decent sound and good connectivity (at the time it was the only one in its price range with 2 HDMI inputs and a vga input)

Also remember Panasonic, Sony etc have said prices are to go up by as much as 30% in Jan ;)

nice tv but ridiculous shipping costs on that site to NI - almost 40 quid!!!!

Maybe more economical and more advisable to buy vag-com lol.
