turbo help please

Featured Replies

now and again if the car goes over 3000rpm the car dumps a load of oil into the intake side and is belching smoke out the exhaust and misses a bit it then clears after gentle running for 2 miles. the bailey dump valve does have a faulty seal on the piston and splurts oil in the engine bay, the oil consumption is very excessive. can someone shed some light on the problem is it a fault with the dump valve or is my turbo about shot?

Sounds like the turbo oil seals to me, but I hope to be wrong on this issue....

as above hope its not but really does sound like the t is shagged:O

oil seals.

Get it fixed before you blow the turbo, embed it in the engine and need a new engine and exhaust.

As above. How do the bearings feel, do hey have play and is the turbo to intercooler pipe oily? Sounds best to have it off and assessed by a competenet rebuilder.

thanks guys thats what i thought it mite be. im just driving it very gently at the minute im not even taking it over 2500 revs hoping it will get me to work till xmas. any one any idea on the cost for a new turbo or a repair on the turbo?

The man posting above your post should know a lot about them as IIRC he does recons for a living.

If you're burning oil through the turbo I wouldn't keep driving it as the turbo is spooling up below 2000rpm.

If you insist on driving it then I'd check the oil before you start off, keep it near to the maximum mark and keep a 1L top up pack in the car.

It sounds like turbo seals going to me too. When they really go you get an oil consumption of about 2l / mile  (no mistake on units, I meant 2 litres per mile), and a smoke screen to embarrass the Royal Navy!
