Rear Fog Light

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 06 Octavia VRS. It only has 1 rear fog light on the offside. I checked the nearside and it has a double fillamint bulb which would suggest that it should have fog lights on both sides, is this correct?

I have tried replacing the bulb incase it had blown but still no joy.

They come with only the offside foglight enabled. You can have both foglights enabled by a dealer or by using vag com or whatever it's called now :D

Try a search, i'm sure that it's been posted before :)

Edit: Beaten to it :mad::)

both foglights enabled by a dealer

Mine tried and later declared it wasn't posible - three or four mouse click from Stu was all that was needed...

Hi Guys,

Sorry - my bad.... I should have searched harder!

As I am just new to having a Skoda I had no idea what VAG-COM is/was. I have had look at the above link and it looks a bit complicated for me, even if I did have the equipment to do it!

I though it was mabe a case of adding a fuse or something! If it has to go back to the dealers I will enquire if they can do it.

Thanks....

the dealers probably wont know anything about vag com (or choose not to), where abouts you from and maybe a member near to you can enable it as its a 30 second job yet the garage will claim its an hour or something silly or even refuse to enable it by refering to some eu rule why both are not enabled.

Steve, I have to take it back to the garage to get a headlight unit checked out as it's starting to mist over on the inside. I will check and see if they can do it for me then, if not I'll drop you a PM.

Cheers

If the dealer can't sort this out (mine initially said they tried but couldn't manage it) there is a last resort solution. Trace the wire in the nearside loom going to the light cluster, and cut and isolate the wire emerging from the loom.

Locate the fog light feed on the offside light cluster, and run a cable behind the rear panel (secured properly) from the offside feed to the cut wire attached to the nearside light cluster. Connect securely, and the current feed going to the offside is now supplying both sides.

The cable size of the offside feed is more than capable of safely supplying the required current for both sides, and will not affect the ECU as the original (non-operational) feed to the nearside is not connected, and so not being used.

you dont even need to waste the time to do it, its 2 clicks on vag com (and at least one person at every meet will have it) to do and takes as long as it takes to load a laptop, load vag com and make two clicks once in vag com.

Im sure that would go down well in the event of requiring a warranty claim...

I asked the dealer to alter a couple of settings on vag com (activation of alarm beep, activation of day running lights, activation of drive away locks and also activation of twin rear fogs). They sorted out all except the rear fogs, and I was told that although they had tried to select the correct settings for twin, the car would not let them alter the factory setting of a single rear fog. They also told me that they had altered the rear fog light settings for quite a few other customers, and had noticed that a small number of vehicles were like mine in that they couldn't alter this particular setting. Anyone else come across this?

No, my Dealer did it on my last service;

I asked them to activate the 2nd Rear Fog via the VAGCOM Software, 'No Problems, we can do that easily' was the reply - car picked up, and voila, 2 rear fogs

there are several options for activating the fogs with vag com, something we found when stu did mine after i couldnt get them activated when i used my vag com and takes adding and removing ticks from two menus if the usual "enable both fogs" fails.

I actually prefer having a single fog light on the driver's side.

I believe it looks less like you have your brake lights on (with a blown globe in the high mounted, centre brake light). When I come up behind someone who has 2 fog lights on I often wonder whether they have their brakes on (in which case I'd better start braking too), or they just have rear fogs on. Especially if they are one of those cretins who insist on switching their fogs on in perfectly clear weather :(

Mind you, we probbaly have a lot less fog here in Oz than some of you people experience.

OK, rub in it! You're enjoying summertime, it's freezing here with temperatures barely above freezing!!!!! Enjoy!

So you don't want me to tell you I have been running the house air con to stop it getting too hot then ? OK, I won't :D

Took my 07 VRS TDi to the dealer today and whilst having some stuff done I asked them to activate the 2nd fog. After half an hour of farting about they told me it wasn't possible as part of the wiring loom was missing and although there is a twin filament bulb there isn't a wire in place!!!

Is this possible or are they YANKING MY CHAIN!!!!!!!!

Anyone near Leeds with VAG-COM who can activate it and prove them to be inept?

yes it can be done with vag com, have a look on the vag com section for list of users with vag com in leeds.

Two boxes need to be looked at -- the 1st box selects one or two rear fog lights.

The second box is "activate 2 rear fog lights".

As expected, he selected two fogs, then activate the two, but the car would not accept the coding and only one would work. BUT, select two rear fogs, and leave the twin rear fogs UNACTIVATED, and both are working!

Worth noting for those awkward motors that won't accept the expected coding.

I did drop some feedback for Stu's octavia-vrs website, but haven't heard from him if he's heard of this happening before.

had this whilst trying to set mine up, in the end stu had a go and still nothing, then we tried unticking boxes one by one and it worked

So now all I need is someone in Leeds area with VAG-COM. If you can help please PM me.
