Pandas, Chengdu and Hong Kong (merged threads)

Featured Replies

They are just so cute and cuddly. The cubs are even more adorable, but they didn't want us taking photos (presumably because of flash).

Anyway, here are a few quickies. Still a few more to go through.

More later when I get back!

Well, I'm a bit disappointed :( Seeing them in full res, they're not as good as I had hoped. OK, the light was shockingly bad - dull grey making black and white look even more dull  but I was hoping to be able extract a bit more "life" out of them. Ho humm

Working hard 24/7 then I see Xav?

LOL. Well, today we did declare a day off, but only because there would be no one in the office / factory where I'm working. Don't worry, I was working yesterday :D

I quite like the subtlety of that pic :)

I like it too, very good :)

That's very cute :D

On my way back from Chengdu in central China, I had a 6 hour stop over at HK, so seemed rude not to visit the city, especially as I'd never been there before. A massive change from Central Chine and the Panda Park :)

Wow! What a fantastic city.

A quick few pics as they're now calling my flight

Wow some fantastic pics there xav.Maybe when the kids have grown up then a visit to HK is on the cards.

Nice:thumbup:

Pic #3 - Now that's what I call a sky scraper:eek:

Very nice! They would make a nice desktop picture!

nice panda.....

It looks so sad and ridiculous but powerful at the same time. How odd it that?

Very nice!

That tower wasn't built when we were in HK 3 years ago!

I should have had a tripod (and a better camera)

Was there an earthquake in progress at the time or something Rob??

:P

 That was one of my better attempts. The Fuji was rubbish in low light combined by me trying to do hand-held night shots

Hong Kong is a stunning place, at night it is unreal, been there 3 times now and never fail to fall under it's spell,, I love it there :)

It is kinda cool.

I love visiting Eastern countries - they're so busy, full of signs you can't read and interesting smells and strange food to try!

Been to Hong Kong, Singapore (twice), Bangkok, Siem Reap (Cambodia)

I can i.d each of those shots.

#1 - HK island, Wanchai. low-rise building to the far left is the Opera House, with Central Plaza being the skyscraper near the centre.

Looks like you were on the Star Ferry or similar crossing Victoria Harbour for this shot Xav. Good work.

#2 - bank of China building. Very striking building, if only because it's quite minimalist, comared to the neon temples around it.

#3 - I always thought this building looked like a spot-lit remington shaver at night. Never did work out what it was. Rob - you sure it wasn't there three years ago? My memory (poor), Xav's angle and your 'shakey-cam' shot would suggest it's the blurred column of light to the left of the Bank of China, from your shot taken on top of Victoria Peak. Need to dig out my pictures tonight to double-check though.

I do miss HK - cheap food and pretty girls (unlike here, which is the opposite...)

It's not that one - but I remember seeing ads for apartments in that building once it was finished.

Maybe it was still under construction then.

ISTR #2 is actually HSBC headquarters - the very place I discovered that my ATM card worked abroad (this was 12 years ago, so before proper internetz and ting...)

Sorry ap0gee, #2 is Bank of China.......HSBC's hq look like this:
