Wanted: Maxidot dashboard

Featured Replies

I've seen the groupbuys from Stu, but I wondered if anyone had a Maxidot (petrol, MPH) that they had bought but never used?

It's the one thing that I felt let down about when I went to look at the car. I imagined it would be a pig to retrofit (I'm used to Audis with the immobilisers in the dashboards) but it seems it's been done quite a few times and from what I see it can be done DIY (unlike the Audi ones!).

So I'm definitely in the market for one of these.

Cheers

The immobilisor is still in the dash insert on the Skoda.

You could try skodateile.cz. His English isn't the best and he prefer German. I've managed with babelfish english -> german translator.

Yeah, done a bit more reading since that post and saw that it was. Still, possible as a DIY whereas it's not with the Audis due to not having the SKC and not being able to retrieve it.

Does anyone have a part number handy for the MPH Petrol vRS Maxidot dash? I was going to run through this with VAGParts but unfortunately that is no longer an option :(

BWA Engine with MPH Dash Insert is 1Z0 920 942 C KDO

I've got one...

It is however attached to a new vRS but don't let that stop you....

There are ways to retrieve the SKC from a car but the equipment is quite expensive.

If you've had the car from new and have the plastic key tag it may well have the SKC.

I've said it time and time again that as far as I am concerned and provided you can prove ownership of the car, that VAG MUST supply you with the SKC for a nominal charge. It would be covered by the EU Block Exemption rules.

I've just checked a cable I already have (and no it's not for mileage correction before you ask!!) and it can read the SKC. I have it on my key tab anyway but wanted to check whether or not the SKC could be read.

Which means I could help other people out if they need their SKC's for similar reasons or coding keys without paying the dealer etc

Do I need to buy the whole vRS that it's attached to or can I just buy the dash? :D

The car.

Trade in price for a 2006 55 2.0TFSi with 30k on the clock? Black with Xenons TPMS rear park assist and 6xCDC? If I'm going to lose more than £300 I think I'll just buy the dash ;)

Just rang Rainworth for a price to be told it wasn't possible to retrofit and not to believe everything I read on the forums.

If only dealers would embrace instead of shy away they could make a fortune.

To be fair to the lad after the initial few difficult "words" he did try to be helpful. He said something about all the "board nets" being different (what are they exactly?) and I explained to him that I'd been doing this stuff for years even for dealers so don't tell me it's not possible :finger:

Infact he just called me back again after speaking to sales to see if the salesman remembered me and he offered me some hefty discount on retail price.

It's still a lot but top marks to him for calling back!

fair enough, at least they called you back, lots wouldnt.

No idea what a board net is by the way??

Bordnetz is the name of the central electronics controller in the Octi.

Tell them its the same procedure as replacing a faulty dashpod, ive seen it done and see what they do, it takes 5 minutes.

1. they link the car to the workshop computer

2. they retrieve the mileage and the skc codes

3 take out the dashpod and install new one

4 tell the new dashpod the codes and mileage and program the keys

i know vrstu has posted on the forums somewhere exactly what to tell the dealer to do to put in a maxidot dashpod so any dealer that say it cant be done are speaking bull (mine being a prime example). I have been in for a service since having a maxidot installed and no problems (along with going/coming home lights etc)

I am considering adding Maxidot to my Dec 2006 vRS - Should a group buy come up again.

I was at my local main dealer a month or so ago (Vindis, Cambridge) and I asked the workshop manager if I turned up with a "Maxidot in a box" and left it with my vRS would they be willing to fit it for me.

Reply: - Sure, we'll give it a go.

So my plan would be to print off everything online about doing said fitting, take it along and hope they charge me an hours labour tops.

I got a price yesterday from skodateile.cz at 260EUR delivered to the UK, I could ask if there would be a discount for 5 units?

I'd be quite happy to fit them too.
