warranty claims

Featured Replies

hi,

i have a 57 plate octavia tdi at its last service 49,724 miles when the car was less than a year old it was noted that both front shockers needed replacing, i was told that this would not be a problem. today i have had another service at 67,000 miles and have been told that the shockers will not be replaced under warranty as after 60,000 miles they are classed as wear and tear items.

the car has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, i have had no work at all done under warranty. what do you think? are they just being petty. i will probably speak to skoda tomorrow. on my previous octavia i had numerous work done under warranty and there was never a problem.

Speak to SUK, if the car has always been serviced at a Skoda dealer and is under 2 years old they should replace them. I can understand brakes, clutch & tyres to come umder wear & tear, but I wouldn't expect shocks to queried.

It's a bit of a grey area. They do have to be classed as a wear item but at what point would be considered as fair wear I wouldn't know. I think 60k is a reasonable time to be truthful.

Have you got a FSSH? If so you may be able to bargain a contribution. I think the lesson is that you should have had them changed at 49K.

yes i have a full service history, but i was told at the last service to leave it as it was not a problem.

When the turbo had to be replaced on my MkI octy at 65k the dealer said SUK would not do it on Warranty. I phoned SUK and they were very helpful, ask me to fax over the service records etc. I added a letter saying that I was pleased with the car up to that point and on the strength of that I bought the Wife a Fabia from the same dealer. The next morning SUK phoned me back to say that they would supply the turbo at 50% and the dealer would do the labour to replace it at 50%. OK it wasn't free, but as I needed the car for my business it was a reasonable deal.
