I hate the winters with Fabias!!

Featured Replies

Well for the second winter running the poor old Fabia is back at Skoda.

This time for the alarm sensor setting the car alarm off and on.

After vag comming it which was as much use as nothing showed up and the recomendation of giving the car a run incase it was the battery I parked up at my parents and it still went off after 10 minutes parking up.

My dad suggested that I should call out the Greenflag so we drove home and did and when the boy arrived he was useless and not sure where to disconnect the alarm, he was under the car with it jacked up, and then basically told me he was going to snip the cables which power the lights and rear wiper at the back.

After much pondering and I'm not clued up on the mechanics of cars I decided to whip the fusebox open, pull the alarm fuse and the turn signal fuse which then shut the damn car up and gave me a good nights sleep.

Took the car in this morning and it might be looked at or it might not depends if they get a spare moment with it.

Don't you just hate the winters when things go wrong with the car and it always seems to happen out of warrenty as well.

Rant over!!:mad::mad:

Sorry to hear about your car but I know what you mean with the winter I am going through a headache with my octavia with wiring faults .

Hope you get it sorted.

Do you close the air vents on the dash before setting the alarm? Probably just a duff movement sensor inside the interior light housing. Some alarm sensors get tripped as the air density changes in the cabin as the temp drops.

Moggytech - I never thought of something like that a stupid wee thing that can set a alarm of like that, cheers mate much appreciated.

Bring back the cars which were simple without the fancy electrics.

Davy

you can disable the interior sensor with vagcom this will at least let you know if that is what is causing the fault

just a thought as you dont use the car as often as you used to

i have experianced a spider setting off alarm systems by spinning webs in front of the sensors ... but it the wrong time of year for wee spiders

Turns out to be the bonnot sensor according to skoda, well it's back to the garage tomorrow and my xmas present to the car this year will cost me a grand total including a replacement clutch pedal boot of about £150!!!

£95 for a sensor.

Digitaldwarf - Might do this now.

Davy

I have that same problem..

But only at 2am in the morning, once a week maybe. Now park it in a workshop at the bottom of the garden so atleast we cant hear it anymore. Well, maybe someone 5miles away can :p

I just hate winter in general lol :D Give me sun sand and see anytime!

Davy i thought your car was under warranty ?

Calm down !! lol

I read it wrong... :P

my fabia is probably one of the best winter cars i've had apart from the fact that you can spin up the wheels so easily. it's comfortable, warm, and nothing really goes wrong with it (i've had to replace the brake light switch, that's it though).

Sorry Johnny worded it a bit wrong, £94.01 later and the car is back in order!

And yes Skodagirl handed over a penny!

And yes Skodagirl handed over a penny!

They did say not to bother with the penny but i had it on me so gave it to them.

I was a bit disapointed they never gave me a curtery car while they worked on it. I wanted to have a drive of one of there cars. But they didn't have any. Plus i probably too young still to drive one.

I've had the bonnet sensor problem with my vRS since I got it.

The way to tell if the alarm is going to sound is if the indicators don't flash when you lock the car.

When this happens I open the bonnet and shut it again and relock the car. this has worked fine for months now but I really must get round to getting it fixed.

Stop slamming the bonnet down in the future then!! :P

So does shutting the bonnet gently prevent this problem from happening?

I remember we were told to shut the bonnet hard and not to push it down gently incase you dent the bonnet.

Is it just like water getting into the bonnett sensor causing this to fail?

Sorry to hear you're having problems, Skodaboy

My experience (2nd winter) is trouble-free. Best winter car I've had, no question.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Cheers mate.

Apart from the problems the car is fantastic, but just feel down the now while it suffers it's problems.

I don't think i have had a car that something hasn't went wrong in the winter. My Fabia has picked up the, your coolants to low illness ( the coolant warning light illuminates on the dash when you first start it ). Reading other posts its because i park on a slope, although i parked on the same slope in the summer and no light. Never mind i stop the engine, restart, drive away and no light. Obviously i do check my coolant just in case but it never budges. I believe there is a fix available but its not urgent.

Thats some price for a switch:eek: Anyway.........

Glad you've got your car back and its working fine:thumbup:

TH thing I hate about my Fabia in the winter is that the Leather Seats get really cold ;)
