Most useless feature on the superb2

Featured Replies

The most useless thing about the Superb Mk II is that they have done nothing to correct the failures of the Mk I.

Am I right in thinking you own a mk1? If so, why? You seem to hate them so much... Why don't you swap it for something else if they're that bad

OK - the next time you find a car specifically designed for 5 and 2 year-old passengers in the umbrella department, let me know.

Ray.

He don't hate the car, he's like me he knows Skoda dealers are not up to task on th Superb 1, he's actually quite a book of knowledge on the car tbh, many a time I've seen him help ppl out here with problems, but the end game is tha Skoda back up sucks.

Actually has anyone found the the rear window blind useful?

You appreciate the rear blind when you travel south (of Weymouth) to a place where the sun shines and drive with the sun at your back.

I mean your wife and kids back, in the back seat - the rear blind does help here. I would have got the side-blinds too but they were ridiculously expensive (160E compared to the stick-ons 15Eur).

OK here's an honest answer

The Sunglasses holder, It's too f*****n small

Secondly being restricted to RSAP with the Columbus as that limits the phones you can use, No Android and No iPhone

Other than that, still love the car

nothing i would change about the superb 2 amazing car, well 1.9tdi 105 engine just slightly underpowered over 90mph other than that its glorious spacious and all together a cracking car i am glad i got rid of my seat altea sport after owning the superb for 4-5 months and driving it twice down south 600 round trip did not feel sleepy at all looking forward to may when my son comes home from afghanistan and i can bring him home in comfort !

I hesitate to post in this thread as it seems a mixture of sense, nonsense and bizarre references!! However, it's Christmas Eve so let's be brave....

Useless Things

  • Never actually used the umbrella in either Superb but it's a nice gimmick and I don't mind it being there. Who knows, I might use it one day......
  • The rear blind - I haven't actually worked out how to get that to stay in position. I know there's something in the owner's manual about how to do it, but it's not been a priority yet.
  • Park Assist - nice to have the front sensors, but it's very temperamental and I think I can probably park the car better than it can (and my parking's not that great!).
  • Reversing lights - I've posted on these elsewhere so won't start that rant again, but they are hopelessly dim.
  • The fact that the instruments are reflected in the windscreen at night
  • Flappy paddles behind the steering wheel. Why pay all the money to have a car that changes gear for you, and then do it yourself? Having said that they've been very useful in the snow and ice, so I'm probably being a bit harsh there.

Wonderful Things

  • Controversial, this, but I love the Twindoor. It means I can open just the boot bit 99% of the time, but can open the whole hatch on the rare occasions that I need to. I could live without it, but I think it's a nice feature.
  • I like the AFS system too - it's surprisingly effective, and the idea of being able to go to the continent without having to stick stuff all over the headlights is a big plus.
  • I don't think the Ambient Lighting/Catvision is as good as in the Mk1, as it seems to illuminate the area behind the gearlever more than the useful areas of the console, but I still like it.
  • All the interior lighting - footwell, cabin, instruments - it's all lovely.
  • I love the fact that, unlike the Mk1, it goes round corners well and inspires confidence. The Mk1 was a bit of a wallowy old beast, but the Mk2 feels much more sorted in the chassis department.
  • The engine - the 170CR is incredibly quiet, smooth and powerful - even if I don't find it particularly economical.
  • The fact that (in Elegance trim anyway) you get all the toys you could possibly want, but the dashboard/steering wheel isn't littered with silly buttons (thinking primarily of the new Accord here, which seems to have buttons everywhere).

I'm sure there are other useless/wonderful things, but those are just the ones that spring to mind at the moment :)

Sorry but for me it is two things...

The Sat Nav that doesn't have full post code support that other Sat navs a tenth of it's price do have.

and secondly

The GSM III kit...... wonderful if you own a Nokia phone but for me not being able to use my iPhone with the car's hand's free is just downright criminal.

I spend a lot more time with my phone for work, home and entertainment than I do with my car, any future choice will be determined by how compatible my new car is with rather than change my phone to work with the car.

I know, it would be wonderful if Apple purchased the Nokia RSAP protocol, but given the lawsuits passing between these companies it ain't going to happen soon. Besides these lawsuits have been a great boon for Nokia, face when was the last time you saw the words Nokia and innovation in the same sentence when Apple wasn't in the mix? :-)

I can't understand why no-one has pointed out the parking assistance! It works well, but I've only used it once (to show someone who didn't believe me that it did it). TBH, I normally just drive straight into a slot (parallel) as I don't see the need to drive past an available slot so that the onboard computer can map out its path, and here in Prague, if you drive past a slot, then the git behind will normally nick it while you wait for the parking system to tell you that its ready....

These are both now available on later cars

In the MFD

Hi!

I find it wonderful but a few issues (as always!):

Holder for DRIVING glasses in the ceiling is to small...

Prone to damages, scratches and so on. In less than 5 months:

1. Scratched left sill (ski boot, this one and the points below never happened on any other car)

2. Left pass. door marked with "friendly neighbors" marks (5 or 6 with a close look) opening their doors against my car.

3. Yet unknown hooligan scratched rear bumper, 1 foot long scratch.

4. Front bumper "marked" by SWMBO:s driving into garage door. License plate just not shiny new anymore.

5. Right pass. door heavily scratched by careless parking (SWMBO again!) without checking rear mirrors. Plastic strip destroyed.

6. One lost(!) rubber strip on windscreen.

7. Probably broken bass speakers on sound system.

And for some strange reason I'm still happy with the car!?!

/Superbjoser

Just come off a Company Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 petrol. Now that's a car to moan about.

The Superb is the best car I have owned and that includes the Audi TT.

Phil

I'm struggling to think of this one.

Maybe the dorky cornering foglights or the crappy sounding tweeters?

I really can't find any feature useless. The more features, the better!

+1

S specced cars have "coin holders" in front of the cup holders. Unfortunately they are too narrow for pound coins. Work great for 50p pieces.

Also on twindoor I have removed the two cubbyhole covers in the boot to increase usable space so for me they were useless. Means I can now fit my daughters cello case in the boot.

otherwise everything else on the vehicle is useful

Holder for DRIVING glasses in the ceiling is to small...

+1. My Ray-Bans won't fit.

Yes, the glasses holder, I find it difficult to reach, it's too far back.

I use the glasses holder for my small Nokia phone, perfect fit.

Prone to damages, scratches and so on.

That's not the car, that's the driver. :dull:

That's not the car, that's the driver. :dull:

Ray

Or the drivers wife, hide your spare key :giggle:

Hi!

I believe the most useless feature must be that the AC turns on every time I switch between low and high auto fan speeds.

Ray

I've owned a few cars and never had this rate of damages before, of course it's the cars fault, who else? :notme:

That aside it's still amuses me and had given me a more relaxed view on driving. Cool down, turn up the music and ride a long. Launch control is a necessity on BMW 1000 RR but on a Skoda? Not for me anyway. Adding to the list of quirky solutions is that oil stick with a plastic(!) end on it. The only car (again) I had to consult the manual to understand it and that didn't worked out quite well either! B)

I have had my car for over six months and never turned the AC off, it is a true set and forget feature. Left on it removes the excess humidity from the car and stops the windows fogging.
