Whatever your question was - the answer is 42.

 @ 42. Douglas Adams is a legend. Shame the filum was completely pants. :(

As for useless features, the twindoor has to rate quite highly!! Why couldn't it have just been a hatchback

because "family cars" are hatchbacks and the superb is aimed at competing with the audi A6 and BMW 5 series. most cars in this class have a boot only. I think skoda realised by having both options they will attract family buyers as well. We have a young family and carry all the parafanalia associated with this - we have been happy with the large boot on our audi but i must admit there are many times when its a pain getting something out from the front of the boot as you have to take everythign else out that it blocking it first. with the twindoor i will be able to open the hatch and reach in without moving stuff. However - for normal daily driving the last thing i want is all the hot air escaping from the cabin (or chilled air in summer) when i open the hatch. Having a boot is also an image thing as well i think - makes the car look and feel more like an exec saloon then a mundano !

i think the number of people that think it is pointless will be outnumbered by those of us that think its a great idea. BMW must agree as they have stolen (well skoda have licenced it to them actually) the concept for the new 5 series !

In answer to the OP, the Octagenarian drvier

Because then every time you opened it after it has rained you would get a wet boot :D

Don't you just love VAG and the way they deal with water ingress across the range - what water ingress Sir?

I think Skoda are more likely to lure people into the brand with proper marketting and improved customer services rather than silly gimicks like "twindoors"

Most useless to me are the tiny door pockets - why not fit one's like the Octavia has

The lack of a right side foot rest, again like the octavia has

AND, why in a car with SO much room in the back, not have a seat base that can be lifted to allow the backrest to fold flat

Hear, Hear! on all three points.

Perhaps someone should consider renaming this discussion as "Most useless thread on the superb2"

THats a very pertinant point but you have to admit that if it was a useless point then everybody would not have posted.

It may of been hijacked but people STILL posted what they thought were silly non sensicle points about their cars.

If you don't like it DON'T post your choice.

Jcblics the lobotamy is working as you can see but don't be afraid if every now and again a little bit of weird humour is added as and when.

Cheers Mountainman:thumbup:

non sensicle?

Here, Here! on all three points.

Shouldn't that be "hear hear!"? :P

Shouldn't that be "hear hear!"? :P

Or perhaps "There There!"

Actually has anyone found the the rear window blind useful?

more to the point can anyone actually get to the blind to put it up ? i realyl struggles on teh test drive car and had to pen the twin door and do it from outside. i remember dring an A6 years ago with and electric rear blind. It was a cool toy but struck me as utterly useless. whast the point of a rear blind ? the sun is not that bad if it comes directly though the back window

Is'nt there only about £20 diffrence between sunset "Gansta glass" and the blinds, personally i'd go for sunset add's a bit of Bling:):)

This thread is bizzare.

I like fish.

As far as I'm aware that's not actually illegal. Of course, if your "liking" runs to any form of deviant behaviour then you may find that the RSPCA have designs on your freedom.

I agree with you. This really is a most bizarre thread.

Whats a £100 per year cambelt change?

Whats a £100 per year cambelt change?

Cambelt needs changing after four years, or 60,000 miles (I think), whichever the sooner. For most of us, the four years will come first. Cost of change is approx £400, therefore £100 per year is the spread cost. At least, that's what I think that meant.

I didn't think about this when I agreed to include the year four service in the price I sold my Octy for, then I found out that - with the required gearbox drain/refill, all filters, etc. - I was around the £600 figure. Still, selling to the son of a very good friend, so it's got to be right and I did get a very fair price for it. Won't be long until January 16th. and the new Superb. :)

Ray.

I don't think this one will be £400, I think it'll be £300 tops as the engine is the right way around and when I looked it looked very accessable to work on for servicing.

Anyway back to topic, for me it has to be

The Superb badging on the headlight's, followed by the unbrella holder which now requires the door to be open to get the brolly out, and if it's raining you will be wet before you can lock and load the said brolly.

and you would think they would convert the right hand drive car so that the umbrella is on the driver's side not the passenger side wouldnt you !

Do you still get wet feet when you open the door and the drain holes drip all over you

and you would think they would convert the right hand drive car so that the umbrella is on the driver's side not the passenger side wouldnt you !

No, I wouldn't. The umbrella is in the rear, hence it's for the rear passenger(s). Alighting on the kerb-side is the safe thing to do, so the umbrella's in the right place.

What do you want - an automatically-opening, self-positioning umbrella in all four doors? This year's Rolls Royce Phantom only has them in the rear doors. :)

my two passengers are 5 and 2 !!!! I will be using the brolly not them !!!

OK - the next time you find a car specifically designed for 5 and 2 year-old passengers in the umbrella department, let me know.

Ray.
