First poor dealer experience- fumes in car

Featured Replies

Guess it had to happen. Took car for 2nd service. After picking it found they had overfilled oil.Initially picked it up as had fumes in car and then checked stick. They re did the oil change but since stuck with either oil or exhaust fumes in car. They had another bash but having checked pollen filter (which was OK) and exhaust they have run out of ideas. Only done 22k. Ho hum. Car is great but wish I hadn't got the ruddy service. More faith in people here than dealer so suggestions welcome. As under warranty also might take to another dealer via Skoda customer services. At the moment have set it to recirc air. V6 TDI:thumbdwn:

Have a look under the engine cover around the filler cap, there could be spilt oil around there, as it's been overfilled get it on record as it's according to the manual bad for the cat, sounds like they let a work experience kid do it, as no trained mechanic is going to shove too much oil in the engine.

Agreed - could also take out the clutch if you're not careful.

Definately get SUK involved and either take it to another Skoda dealer or a registered garage (warranty still OK as long they use genuine parts).

Keep us posted.

Split crankcase breather hose?

Didn't create a problem on my PD105, but could be a possibility?

Or blocked breathers?

Agreed - could also take out the clutch if you're not careful.

Keep us posted.

Crankshaft seal 1st  so dubble jepdy.

You have to allow for ppl who don't know cars tbh bud, no use putting a clutch in if the leak is still there, mind you any good mechanic would advise the same if they found a contaminated clutch, but it saves ppl thinking the mechanic is adding to the bill.

I agree completely... I was just joking :P

Anyway, speaking of the bright side... if the clutch doesn't fail due to over filling, there's always the pollen filter problem... and the pinch bolts... and the headlamps... and the (continues for 94 pages)

Wonderful update. New dealer took 2 minutes to identify that engine had was v low on oil (hence smell) . So original dealer went from putting too much in, emptying it out again and then seemingly forgetting to fill her up again. Also having had car back last week somehow failed to pick up anything (in process telling me couldn't smell anything). Obviously concerned re potential damage to engine and in hands of Skoda UK. Also new dealer (been good so far) checking car again next week. Ho hum.

So, as far as Skoda are concerned... one of their "experts" has proven another one wrong...

*does the cheque book dance*

Hope the car's okay, good luck.
