boot closing strap

Featured Replies

Another minor niggle with the new car - the handle for closing the boot (estate) has been pulled off. How do I go about replacing this?

cheers

andrew

remove the boot lid trim.

find a similar type of strap material at BnQ or a fabric shop etc

then see how it was attached to the boot lid. might be a clip, a bolt or something. will be obvious when you look.

You can just use string

Or you could go to your dealer and order

Grab handle: 1U0 827 895B 01C

Oval head panel screw : N 013 968 19

clip: 6U0 868 563

Listed above is the strap, screw to hold grab handle and the plastic bit the screw goes into.

Usually, the thing that goes is the clip. You need to remove the trim to see what is broken.

great - thanks for the help, will go and investigate

I find the fabric handle a pain... it keeps shutting outside of the boot - going over the rubber seal. Thus when driving on a wet road with plenty of spray, the handle acts as a wick and lets water/dampness enter the boot.... Whenever I shut my boot these days I take great care to ensure the handle closes inside the car.

had a look at the problem earlier - trouble is I couldn't get the plastic trim off to get to where the strap would be attached

I was expecting screws/bolts to undo and the trim would fall off but after a lot of prising it wouldn't shift without feeling like it would be snapped in half

any pointers on how to remove the trim?

cheers

andrew

Pull it from a corner furthest from the glass, will become obvious once it start popping away ;)
