Starter motor bolts

Featured Replies

Hi all and Seasons Greetings...

Hav`nt posted for a while, but i`m going to have to as i have a sticking starter motor.

i`m going to remove and give it a clean, but i`m wondering what size the bolts are that hold it on??

It`s a bit dark, wet and miserable to go out and pop the bonnet,so i thought i would post on here instead.Ha Ha.

2004 Vrs Estate.

thanks in advance folks.............................

If i remember correctly they are 7mm but don't quote me on that one!

(or that might be the 2 long ones ones that hold the starter motor body together)

The bolts have 2 sections, one main hex bit and a stud on the end for brackets etc.

I think the nuts are 10mm, holding the brackets on. And the main bolt heads are something like 18mm (non standard). Can't be certain though.

I know it's definitely a non-standard size though as I had to scrounge about for a spanner to fit properly, and they are big, as they go through the gearbox casing into the block.

The upper bolt has a bracket for the wiring loom on it (that can be slid off) but it is secured with a 13mm nut. The bolt itself is an 18mm but you need a deep socket to go over the stud that the 13mm nut goes onto. The lower bolt is also 18mm, if it has a bracket for the PAS pipe on it that it also secured by a 13mm nut.

Oooh so close! I got it half right!!

Thanks for the post`s people!!

Finally got round to doing the job today.

Quite an easy task really.

Removed the starter and cleaned it up and greased it.

Now the car starts without the still engaged screech.

Now thats saved me some money.......for now.

Nice one!

It is surprisingly easy to do, and well worth the sound of silence that you achieve!

Mine still hasn't stuck since I cleaned/greased it, even when starting in -7 degrees, so I'm happy.
