iPhone Ringtones

Featured Replies

Can I add my own? All of the info on the net doesn't work due to the latest version of itunes stopping aac conversion.

I don't really want to use jailbreak either as Apple are beginning to brick iphones running that!

somebody I "know" does there own ringtones. You need an encoder, such as the excellent Imtoo encoder. You cant do it from itunes songs though as, like you say they are protected aac. files. You can do them from normal mp3's fine though, just change them into .m4a files. They must be no longer than 30 seconds long. Save it on your desktop and then rename the file, changing the .m4a to .m4r. It will change to a ringtone then just drag it into your itunes ringtone section. Hope that helps, and apologies for the long sentence, as Im at work on my Nokia N95. Cheers, Damian.

Unfortuantely the only easy way now is to send Apple your firstborn and purchase some of the crap ringtones off itunes... Jesus phone indeed

Hmm, both the above seem to overlook/overcomplicate things. It's the work of a few minutes, if you're sufficiently competent and creative.

Standard audio lead (3.5m jack at both ends)

Goldwave (shareware download)

Play whatever you want, record using the lead as a loop (audio out into mic), convert to mp3 (Goldwave requires LAME for this -easy free download)

Then just import it into iTunes ringtone section.

I've made quite a few. Longest part of the process was deciding what song/audio clip to use.

Try "Audiko.net" this site is spot on just search the track you want select "I Phone ringtones".

You can listen to them before you download them. The ring tones are all 30 seconds long ish and when you download them they go straight into I tunes so you can sync them to your phone.

Any problems just ask

regards Chris

Overcomplicate?

Pretty easy really, once you have done it once. . . if your competent that is ;-)

My point precisely...:P

Problem solved! Used this free program (Techlogg.com ToneShop) to cut and convert the tunes in one click! Then doubel click the converted file and it's added to the ringtone section of itunes. Hooray! Thanks everyone for helping.

There is software called "iringer" that'll do it with minimal hassle.

Still not a fan then Col :D

It's so easy....

Import your ringtone into iTunes.

Find it in the libary, right click on it and select "Create AAC version"

Right click on the new "AAC" version of the file and select "Show In Windows Explorer"

Rename the file extension to *.m4r

Double click / drag the file into iTunes.

It will now recognise it as a ringtone and you can then sync it to your phone as a ringtone.

HTH :)

Trouble is, the new version of iTunes has lost the convert to aac feature. Too many copyright issues apparently.

For those growing numbers out there with Apple Macs you can download a track into Garageband save a 30 sec section as a ringtone. You can also create your own music or speech and then save as a ringtone. Then sync it to your phone.

There are plenty of options above for those in the Windows world.

mine (8.0.2.20) still allows me to create an AAC version of a track by right-clicking on it

I'm running that version but the option isn't there...

weird, the only problem I've had is that it wont convert protected files (things I've purchased through ITMS). it's not as simple as you're missing it cos option to convert was reworded to 'Create AAC Version' :o
