to remove the whole wart thingy, so you are left with just a hole in the bumper.

Why would you want to remove them ?

IIRC, they're a legal requirement with Xenons.

There is a U-shaped clip behind the bumper that holds them on. There is one water pipe going to each one.

But why remove them in the first place?

to attempt to replace them with the pop-out headlight washers from a mk2 octavia

The crash bar is in the way on the Mk1, so without modifying that, I can't see how you would fit the mk2 headlight washers.

didn't know that, cheers. saved me the hassle.

wasn't even that interested, it was more a question of, can it be done.

answer is yes, but its a pain in the butt, so not worth bothering with.
