Clutch failure

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 1.9 tdi Elegance Octy, in March of this year I experienced a problem with the clutch pedal sticking in the dipped position it was looked at twice under warranty and the slave cylinder replaced. Now 8 months later the cylinder has failed on me whilst driving on a busy dual carriageway at rush hour (not impressed). I have return the car to my usual skoda dealer where the original repair was carried out and have been informed that as the car has no warranty left (finished in April this year)I shall have to pay any repair costs in full as there is no warranty on work carried out under warranty, is this the usual case?

Can't comment on the warranty, but the clutch master cylinder problem isn't unknown. I had exactly the same problem on my 2 litre Golf. When I took it into the dealer, he implied that they'd had others in with the same problem and replaced it under warranty, which took about an hour, while I waited and drunk their coffee. :)

Ask if the replaced parts are covered by their own warranty if they were replaced 8 months ago.

Also, sales of goods legislation requires that goods are of merchantable quailty and last a "reasonable" amount of time. No court in the UK would see that 8 months is a reasonable amount of time. Do research into this for the exact legislation.

A stern, well worded letter to the dealer principle and CC'd to Skoda UK will, I'm sure get things moving in your favour.

All VAG oem parts has at least 2 years factory warranty . By factory warranty I mean warranty which producer of that part gives to you as a consumer... ( in Norway OEM parts has 3 years factory warranty) So if replacing the cylinder you are talking is done with original OEM part than without any doubt you have warranty on that cylinder ....Take tha car back to your dealer who replaced the cylinder in first place to do the job again.
