I can't believe this basic spec Superb made

Featured Replies

The following Superb 1.9Tdi 100Ps was sold on eBay UK for £3,033:-

reference number 110325211148

Given the fact the car was on Irish plates, had 132k miles, body repairs, no service history or mention of when last serviced...and no Mot or Tax I think the buyer paid too much. For that kind of money the buyer could have secured a Octavia II 1.9Tdi Ambiente/Elegance which would be a better drive and probably more reliable.

I suppose you pays your money and takes your choice!

I would take that over an Octy 2 with similar miles...

You mean an ex-taxi with poverty spec, no history, tax or MoT! I'd rather have an Octy II with the 105Tdi PD lump any day over this particular Superb.

My Octy II has served me extremely well for 112.5k miles, during that mileage needing only a replacement lefthand indicator/cruise stalk and a fuel filter housing (changed to the newer design). Unfortunately, both items were outside of warranty, however, as it is a company car I did not pick up the bill!

To show I am not biased towards the Octy II, I am currently awaiting delivery of a Superb II 105PD, due in mid January 2009.

To be honest, I didn't look into it in depth. Given the details of this particular example, it wouldn't be my choice, but I would look for another superb rather than a Mk2 Octavia.

I have nothing against the Mk2 Octavia, in some respects I can see an argument for them over the superb 1 (newer technology mainly), but I just think the Superb is a more comfortable car and I see no reason for it to be any less reliable (they regularly do 250,000+ miles with no issues). I also prefer the way they look.

If the Mk2 Octavia was a very nimble car then perhaps I would think differently, because I do find that the Superb is a bit of a boat... But whilst the Octy is better, it's no hot hatch and I think the other benefits of the Superb out weigh the Octavia.

It's just personal choice really but I prefer the Superb TDi (in general) to the Octavia TDi (in general). Having read the ebay auction in a little more detail, I take your point.

The Octy II is less agile than a Golf Mk5, however, the extra weight of the body is only apparent during successive directional changes. On fast flowing A & B roads the Octy II would easily keep pace with a Golf Mk5, although not a Mark II Focus.

My Octy is equipped with Syrius 16" alloys shod with 55 section Michelin Primacys. On the whole, the ride quality is good, however, very rough surfaces do transfer through to the cabin. I'm looking forward to my Superb II (also on 16" alloys) to see how ride quality compares. I have high hopes it will exceed my Octy.

I haven't driven a Superb II, but having been a passanger in one, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

I recently had my 1.9 130 Comfort Superb in the dealer for a cambelt change and they gave me a Octy 2 as a loan car. It was a petrol and how gutless it was I could only imagine it was a 1.6 or less if they do less.

I've got to say that even though it was a miles better that my 2.0 Octy1 that I once owned I was surprised that it wasn't a patch on my Superb, It wasnt as comfortable a ride, obviously it wasnt as quick but I also felt it had a cheaper feel about it (sorry Octy2 owners)

I really did think that the Skoda would us the Superb1 as a bench mark for the Octy2 and transfer a lot of the extras over but all the neat little extra's like the Blackpool illumination dash and courtesy lights, the auto rear view mirror, Climate control as standard not just A/C were not there

.

I was really considering changing for a VRs2 diesel but will have to seriously consider the Superb2 now as I feel despite the performance the Superb2 will be a step forward where as the Vrs2 will be a step sideways!

Given the fact the car was on Irish plates..........

Why would this affect its value? Would it matter if it was registered in Scotland or Wales as well? Some people use the Irish registrations as a cheap way of hiding the cars age.

Generally it seems to affect the car's value in this country. I'm not sure why - but it does.
