Who has had a Remap & then Blown a Turbo/Broke Gearbox Etc ?

Featured Replies

So ?.

Who has had a remap & then had component failure afterwards on their fabia Vrs PD130 ??

i.e Turbo, Clutch/flywheel Etc Etc.

Now this is not a name & Shame Re. remaps Etc. & it does not rule out the potential operator abuse factor.. But just to gauge the durability & longevity of the components most affected by the stress's of a Remap.

I think most people have been remapped and cooked the standard clutch. :)

Me? I've not broke a thing and am running the stock 6 speed box, but with a trick diff in it. The engine itself is also stock and I've yet to break anything in there either. :)

Inherent weaknesses are the stock clutch & flywheel, and the turbo (if you push it too hard)

Didn't you snap a shaft at The Pod?

When you say "Push the Turbo to hard"

Do you mean with the Map/Boost or with your right Foot ??

i.e if you have a sensible & progressive map (Sensible Boost Peak) you can still use your right foot without the Turbo dying prematurely ??

I've not had clutch issues with mine, but i didn't have a 'full power and torque' remap, i opted for a tamer 'economy' map. All is well and i have enough (for now) extra power to put a grin on my grid :D

My car is remapped, Jabba, was done by the previous owner.

When I got the car in 05 it had just ticked over 19k, at present it now has 53k on it and I've had no problems.

Since early this year I've had a Magnex exhaust without cat, that's caused me no problems either. However, I'm no boy racer, I like to have the power there for the odd occasion, controlled bursts of enjoyment.

Also have the 312mm brake upgrade, no point having the go power without having the stop power!

Colin drove around 80k on his Revo'd Fabia vRS on the std clutch.

Mines now @ 93k & what concerns me is that if i get it mapped it may not last that much longer. Now im a thoughtful driver, re, Engine Temp & not just ragging the **** of it for raggings sake, But i do like to drive fast (Conditions/roads permitting Etc) when the mood takes you ;)

After all, It is too damp & cold to get my 130 Bhp Yamaha R6 out for some fun :D

93k isn't too shabby on the original clutch anyhow. Perhaps budget to get it replaced with an organic one with the remap anyhow?

Are you just asking to make conversation, or to find out if a remap will muck your car up?

If its the latter, then youve got to ask about people who's gearbox's etc have gone on a standard.

Otherwise it will give you a false sence of remap distructability. (so to speek).

HTH.

Looking to see if a Remap has shortened the life of the Car Etc.

I do understand though, The Clutch Etc. may have gone regardless & thus give a false outcome.

It is really just to gauge people who have/are running on remaped cars & have been for a good few K's.

Didn't you snap a shaft at The Pod?

I feel the history of that shaft was checkered, and it took a sticky pod track and some seriously bad wheelhop to snap a CV joint clean in 2. :) Running a bit more power now and both driveshafts are doing well. :)

Good to hear when vRS' do go well on the stock clutch, but I think when fresh remappees first get their cars tuned, they try to use the torque low down which is bad. You need really to learn to re-drive your car once remapped. :)

Whats the deal with an "economy" remap???

Whats the deal with an "economy" remap???

Its like the name suggests, its tailored more at improving MPG than full on power, but its still an impressive gain in BHP and Torque.

Rapid Remap

More info on there, and Mike is also a member of Briskoda

my clutch went pop at 40k on a remapped Fabia :( dont know when it was mapped though... still on std turbo at 62k now however

Mine was remapped at around 60k and I took the step of having an uprated clutch fitted at the time. I would recommend you do the same if you're going to get remapped. After all, the original standard unit has been used to dealing with standard power and you're now going to give it the shock of it's life :D

It is worth mentioning that you will put more strain on the turbo and intercooler pipework as you'll be running more boost. It's quite common for people to find pipes popping off, especially around the SMIC. So factor this in too. At this very moment I'm hoping a pipe issue is the cause of my current issue :)

Done about 80k on my AmD mapped fabia and still on std clutch and turbo @ 112k

Is the clutch shared with other models? I've had two 6 figure mileage PD130s (1 x A4 and 1 x VW Bora) that have been remapped with no problem. I sold the A4 at 155k miles on the original clutch and turbo.

Colin drove around 80k on his Revo'd Fabia vRS on the std clutch.

And it's still on the car if you're meaning Col G ?

Just about to tick over to 121k in the next few days too.

Slips a lot, well, loads actually, but it's getting replaced after the year.

I had a remapped 130 Seat Ibiza TDi before buying my Fabia and the map was pretty harsh - a massive lump of power and torque that caused wheelspin and not a lot else.

After about 3 months at caused a fair amount of clutch slip under load so i drove round it while saved for a new stronger clutch.

Then just as instantly as it had started the bloody thing completely stopped slipping and i had 6 months more driving (before selling to fund the Fab) with no slip what-so-ever.

Confused the hell outta me!!!

Same with mine.

When it started to slip, i could hardly drive the car, then it got progressivly better.

Now worse again though. :thumbdwn:

i had a harsh map on mine and drove like a pleb which snapped the shaft connecting the compressor wheels in the turbo ... to early for me to remem proper names lol basically the kkk went pop! now have a garret and a less harsh map and everything is fine!! no gearbox or clutch slip issues and 74k on the clock

Im on 124000 miles, and am hoping to map it next year. However, i`ll be getting the turbo checked before hand, and the clutch most prob replaced since these seem to be the main things that take a beating.

15000 miles and on the second clutch,4th set of tyres and the turbo whines and smokes more with every journey, suppose thats what you get for telling your tuner to give it all hes got eh;)
