has anyone changed their head unit

Featured Replies

... whilst retaining the original CD Changer in an Octy?

I have searched the forums and can find reference to retaining the head unit and changing the cd changer (not sure why you would want to though) which requires an adaptor cable, I have also been able to locate such an adaptor but cannot locate one which fits at the h/u end . Is the only option to replace both the h/u and the changer ? .

Also, does anyone know which removal tool works for the symphony unit?

http://www.caraudioplus.co.uk/pcp/Radio%20Removal%20Tools.html

The only Skoda model mentioned is the Superb, but there is mention of a 'Symphony' unit under the Audi link. Is this the same as the Skoda Symphony ?

you want the skoda superb ones, it has the same headunit.

no one has yet got the oem cd changer to work with another hu. its made by panasonic, but has a blaupunkt connection to the hu. it doesnt work with a blaupunkt hu though because I tried it.

Thx Mannyo, looks like I will have to change the lot then

(goes off to search the web for head unit/changer packages )

Hey - just get an MP3 single CD player, then you can just have your own multi-changer on one CD-R. Makes my life easier.... (I could pop around to help install it too, after finally doing mine on my own, instead of relying on ICE outlet. ;))

Certainly the most cost effective option I reckon.

Don not wanna steal the thread, but just a quick question...

Jason, which HU did you get, and how much?...how good is it? Would like one to run on the std speakers for now and maybe upgrade speakers and add amp in future.

Cheers

I have a VDO Dayton cd/mp3 HU. You can program the HU to increase the volume depending on the speed. The sound is great. It has a plug in mic that lets you allow the set to self calibrate to suit the cabin acoustics. It has some neat software (digital speedo, mileometer, etc.) and accessory options (parking distance sensor, temp, etc) too. One complaint (and its a biggie) is the controls are finiky - a small cluster of buttons which you need small thumbs for. On the plus side, it has a handy remote control.

All things considered, I like it.

Also, what is the model number?

I have a Kenwood 4 x 50W KDC M6024 HU... not bad really, as it plays accurately and gets more out of the standard speakers. I will shortly be amping the front door speakers I have in a box here, so the HU will only be powering the rear speakers. :D
