Which towbar?

Featured Replies

Having looked at the previous thread on bumper cuts for towbars and cycle racks, I've decided to have a removable one fitted to my Roomster. I went to the local towbar place for a quote. They could do several types, though the Witter removable did not appear available for the Roomster, so it left the Brink or the Westfalia (which was slightly more expensive).

Doing a search on this forum it would appear that the Westfalia one is well regarded and possibly an OEM fitting, so unless others have any negative comments, it would appear that this is the one to go for.

What was confusing was that with the Westfalia I apparently need to buy the plastic bit which covers the bumper from Skoda which is inexpensive at 1.30. If I wanted the surround for it, it would need to be ordered in, though according the the Skoda parts guy, most people just purchase the centre bit.

Lastly, does one just buy a can of spray paint of the correct colour from the Skoda dealer, and spray it on?

Can anyone who has had the Westfalia removable tow bar fitted comment on the plastic bumper removable bits?

Thanks in advance.

You don't say which model you have. If it's a Scout the panel is already in place and you don't need anything. All the others have to be cut, there is a mark on the rear of the bumper that shows where the cut has to be made. I understand that the panel that is supplied covers the cut when the towbar is removed and has to have a "frame" fitted to take it. There are others on here who have done it and will advise you. I had the Westphalia removable fitted to my Scout but I haven't removed it yet as it gives me a positive indication when I have reversed too far!:)

Thanks for that reply; I have got a Roomster 3 so no bumper cutout, I'm afraid.

I'll get the Skoda dealer to order the cover and the frame, and get the paint.

My dealer has just ordered a removable towbar for me, and he said most people don't bother with the cover as it's so low down as to be barely noticeable.
