Accident repair records

Featured Replies

Hi

My car has been hit by a car in a car park and the damage to the front bumper is estimated at about £500. A lot for minor damage repair and re-align bumper I think.

If I use insurance will it be logged on HPI or whatever?

When i come to sell I want to be able to show it wasn't bad, so a photo may help but being logged as a accident repair may not be a good thing?

Is there a level before they are put on the register?

Thanks

only logged on HPI if it gets written off i believe... :) but im unsure

Unsure myself.

My Felly almost got written off due to a panel being dented but it got fixed :D

I wouldn't worry though, if it's been fixed to a good standard then it won't show. If you're honest to a seller and they cant see where it was damaged then it won't affect residuals provided the car is maintained well.

If the damage was bad enough to put it into Cat D/C then it'll show on a check.

The car will not be recorded, but do keep in mind the loss of NCB and also the fact you will need to pa your policy excess so depending on your age, going through the insurance may not save that much.

Sorry i should have said i am claiming off the other persons insurance.

My car was parked and they skidded into me on the ice. I have witnesses and the driver admitted they lost control and slid into me.

So I shouldn't have any effect on my insurance, should I?

But I am concerned if the claim will be logged

Thanks

No effect on your insurance but the accident will be logged by your company if you use them to claim from the other side.

It definately won't be recorded on HPI.

Don't be so sure. I was rearended, other driver admitted liability, my insurance goes up , as did SWBO's, as I'm a named driver.

It will be logged with the insurance co, but the damage to the car will not be recorded with HPI etc, so no worries there.

Who was that with? It shouldn't have gone up if you were not to blame.

Same here. 1 non-fault accident and my renewal premium went up, despite having an extra yrs no claims. I phoned to query it, and they said it makes you more likely to be involved in another accident

No, i didnt renew with them...

I had an accident on my bike, informed the insurance company, the other driver was to blame, but neither of us claimed... come to renew I need a letter from the person involved stating that there was no insurance companies involved.

Was on my motorbike and just needed a new front mud guard so I fitted it myself.

Isn't it a crime not to report an accident to your insurers regardless of whether you are choosing to claim or not? Or have i imagined this?

I thought it was a crime to not report an accident to the police. INsurance companies would probably prefer it if we paid them our money and then didn't claim! ;)

Reporting Accident to Police.

Not doing so is an Offence ,not a Crime .

If damage is caused to another vehicle(not the one owned by the person causing the accident) and there are no Allegations as to who may be to blame ,and no persons are injured, them the Police do not need to be informed. Any Injuries to any person ,including pedestrians then the Police will need to be informed. The exceptions are that if the person causing the damage is unable to give his details to any person requiring it i.e another car driver ,or owner of buildings or property damaged, or the owner is unknown .In this case the Police need to be informed.

If any animal is injured ,as a result of an accident (animal is defined horse cow dog etc(not a cat) the Police will need to be informed. The Person causing the accident/damage has 24 hours to report it to any Police Station.

You need to be aware Insurance Companies will in most cases suggest the Police be called or informed to protect there own Interest.ie. 'My Client called the Police therefore he cannot be to blame'.
