Erratic idle on Superb 2.0 140bhp help!!!!

Featured Replies

Please view the clips i have posted!!!!!

I own a 08 superb 2.0tdi (140 bhp) and after driving, and then allowing the car to tick over, it starts to mis- behave.

The revs needle first sits as it should, smooth at 750rpm, then minutes later it starts to waver up and down and the sound of the engine, sounds as though its mis-firing,then after a few minutes, it will settle down again.

on a longer journies, the time for this to happen, takes affect 4-5 mins after when stationary, ticking over normal then will start wavering up and down, then settle down to normal again.

as time has pasted and clocking up the miles, it seems to be getting more frequent.

I have added 2 video clips showing this, but no sound of engine, just the needle movement

i am hoping someone out there might know if this is normal or not ( i dont) the car is going into skoda this thursday, there will be a tech guy from skoda uk and another former tech guy from another branch to join me on a run to show them this issue. They seem to think there is nothing wrong, so have got these guys to come down to see what they think.

Mine also does this, but I have not heard any misfiring sounds, just the irratic idle.

Would be interested to know what causes it.

Mine does something similar, especially in cold weather and especially when there's a drain on the electrical system ie: heated rear window and climatronic.

My revs tend to hold steady but then drop suddenly, then regain. Kinda like a mini-stall. So in my case I'm thinking perhaps a dodgy battery or something like air flow temp sensor. Been way too busy to investigate it further lately though.

Are there any circumstances where your motor idles more erratically than others?

I was about to say something about the DPF but then I realised that Allclowns' Superb is a 1.9 AWX.

In which case I'm stumped!

If its a 140 its a 2.0 with dpf but having spent rather a long time investigating the dpf I dont believe it can cause eratic problems

like this

Ours has done 75000 & I havent experienced anything like this. I would expect some sort of electrical drain. try switching off the climate, seats , heated windows etc & see if it still does it. Does it always start well even when very cold. If starting well I would guess that probably eliminates a weak battery.

Good luck with the techys, if they say they all do it & your not convinced simply ask to go in another one to proove the point

When the DPF is regenerating or doing whatever the hell it does (annoy people in the main) It ticks over at 1000 rpm.

Yeah I guess I should have mentioned that. ;)

Quite so! :D

Sorry, I thought the DPF regen/annoyance caused "pulsing" idling.

All I can say is yay AWX!!

having seen the video clip i dont think there is nothing to worry about....video showed the needle fluctuating at night hence the white dials and probably headlights on plus aircon on maybe and even the power steering pump is in motion.....electronic sensors like the rev counter are very sensitive.....id be more concerned if it was much much higher...then again like S J said it could be the dpf....the fact mine comes on occasionally is nice to know it actually works...i think it would be more alarming seeing both rev needles and speedo needles moving like they do on the new superb hehe

I was stuck in traffic at the weekend so tried flicking Electric bits on & off & the idle stayed constant

this happens with my 2.0 tdi occaisonally too. it has nothing to do with any electrics running as its just as likely to happen with the engine just ticking over with all electrics switched off. the car still runs fine so i dont think its anything to be concerned about.
