The New Fog Light trend has spread to Germans

Featured Replies

I think you had all be ready to see alot more people driving with their fog's on, a quote from the new Skoda Ireland Octavia site

"the implemetation of the daylight function now means the new fog lights have taken over the function of obligatory daytime illumination of the vehicle from the main headlights"

So the Irish government have now derogated motoring law to the vehicle importers?

I just checked the link again and it is in Skoda-Auto.com, so I am guessing there must be a lot of government's derogating to vehicle importers, not just the Irish

I wonder how they get around the fact that it is illegal (UK law) to use lights mounted as low as the fogs on that Octy unless visibility is under 100m?

The VXR8 comes with fog and driving lights mounted down low so I dont think it is the hight of the light that counts

dont the new fog lights from skoda have a second bulb in the lights that runs at a lower wattage as not to be as bright???

Tonight i had the joys of using my fogs on that road i used them on last time as the fog got thicker and thicker and my speed less and less and temperature colder and colder (-4c). why dont people who put their rear ones on not turn them off when you get behind them? its not hard!!

Why do people tailgate you in fog, and then complain about "being dazzled by rear fog lights"? Staying far enough back that you can only just see the rear fog(s) of the car in front isn't hard!

Got to agree, the reason for the brighter light is that people can see you from a greater distance and not need to drive up your chuff :thumbdwn:

See schedule 2 of the The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_1.htm

minimum height above ground for a dipped headlamp is 500mm - (in the interpretation it states that measurements are made to the nearest illuminated section of the light so this 500mm will be to the extreme bottom edge of the lens.)

Schedule 6 for front fog lamps has no minimum height above ground.

The definitive answers to many of the points raised in this thread can be found in these regs.
