knocking problem

Featured Replies

hi all

travelling to work this morning, i have noticed a slight knocking sound when applying the brakes. it seems to be coming from underneath the car and at a guess towards the back, but as i was alone and trying to concentrate on the road ahead, i could be mistaken as to where the sound comes from. the knocking sound only occurs when you apply the brakes when moving. if stationary, and the brake is applied, there is no sound.

the braking effect at present is not affected at moment.

by the way, it is a fabia 1.2 Htp on 03 plate.

anybody any ideas please?

Worth getting your suspension bushes checked out, they can make knocking noises when they get worn.

thanks, that could be it, unless anyone else has any other thoughts.

must admit, not so long ago, when going over speed bumps there was a bit of a creaking sound coming from the suspension, but only in dry weather. when it was wet it never happened. a mechanic friend of mine said it could have been the bushes then, and would only do it when dry, as when wet they are lubricated.

Mine creak, so I just sprayed some silicone lubricant on them and they are fine at the moment.

Ive have this problem, i get quite a knock when i apply the brakes firmly, scares the hell out me sometimes!

are we sayin it could be worn bushes?

might be the front ARB busshes,

Mine did this. T'was the console bushes allowing too much vertical movement in the control arm when braking. Cupra bushes soon sorted that. :D

thanks all, but just 1 problem.........

i am not mechanically minded.......lol

Chrispy, care to elaborate exactly what you mean and what i can do about it....... lol

Mine have stopped creaking now it's wet out but they do make a squeak when dry, checked them out at the weekend and all seems fine, so I would deduce that they are just dry and in need of some kind of lubricant when they get to a certain age?????

Sounds like it's coming from the middle of the car under the gear lever.......I'll wait until it's dry and have another butchers and see....don't want to do any unknown damage to anything else.

Mine don't knock when going over bumps etc, just squeak, so is this the start of them failing? if so, what is the difference in the normal Fabia and Cupra bushes? and would it be better to pay more for them seeing how it may have to be done in the future???

:confused::confused::confused:

Do a search for console bushes, or even Cupra bushes. A wealth of results should come up. These things are quite crucial in keeping the front suspension in check when steering and braking etc. If they're knackered (standard ones don't last 2 mins) you will get sloppy steering, creaking / knocking brakes knocking over bumps etc etc.
