agreed

They arent making money selling the new cars so they offer anybody part ex'ing a car crap money for it.

I'd just flog it yourself and and walk in with as much money as you have. He will probably try to get you screwed on a crap finance offer though in order to make his money as I take it you wont have the full amount payable.

1) Look into your own loans etc

2) Dont do the deal on the same day you walk into the showroom let the salesman ring you back the next (few) times. If he does this it suggests he or they havent hit their sales targets and will drop lower on the price.

3) Once you have chosen what colour you want and the spec you want. Ring round all dealers within a 100 mile radius to see what their best offers are. You would be suprised by how much they will undercut each other to get a sale.

Best of luck mate I hope you get a good deal. I love bargain hunting :D

I would suggest you join FREEDOM for £12 and try to sell the car on here!

I'm sure there are many members that would offer far more than £8,000 for it. - I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Rob

Tbh I think that is a fair offer the way things are atm.

The main thing to consider when p/xing a car is 'cost to change' He might have only offered you fourpence for your car, but he could have lowered the price of your new car by 9 grand ( a tad extreme, but you get my drift...)

I'd agree with the grumpy one above. If for example you can get £9k for your car privately then £8k on a trade in isnt a ****take from their point of view. They have got to sell it on in a very difficult market and need to make money on it also.

exactly, I'm starting to think about changing the car and although they had slightly higher mileage, when browsing the Trader the cheapest SE was around 8.5 and the most expensive around 10.5. both were from dealers and like you say, they're in business to make a profit

Traders need to make at least 1k profit on your car to make things viable.

When I bought my Fabia, I was offered 3300 for my old car and no discount on the price of the Fabia, (they would offer discount but would subsequently take the price off the trade in).

I told them I would buy the Fabia if they gave me a little bit more on the trade in but they would not budge.

I went away and found a buyer for my car for 3300 then went back to the skoda dealer with cash and no trade in and negotiated a further 500 off.

Hope this helps

Dealers have to make a profit somewhere. I was quite shocked to learn that a new showroom car selling for 10K only gives the dealer about £300 profit after costs etc.

Car sales are low at the moment, so I suspect the dealer is trying to make 2K from the deal, rather than the usual 1K.

FWIW your car is worth £10,000 to £10500 in a private sale, and if there was no credit crunch 9K to a dealer as a trade in. As thing stand though, I would say 8.5K would be fair. :D

Just to add something to this. Have you seen how many of the SE's are for sale? If you add up how many there are for sale at the mo, and then think that only 1000 were made, I reckon its a big % of the original number and they dont seem to be selling at 9-10k.

Interesting observation. I think quite a lot is down to the specification of the SE for the price new (2K worth of kit for £500 rough figures.) I know some people bought them as a one year fun investment, as resale values were expected to be excellent, but the credit crunch sort of dampened that theory to some extent.

My own car (07 plate) had one owner for 14 months, and he traded it in for an Octy 2ltr Petrol VRs, the next lady owner had it for two weeks, but found it to be too fast

I would guess some people had reliability issues, but the VRs reliability score on warranty direct is 74, which is pretty darned good, and better than VW.

dont understand why people are selling. It is a sporty car that is cheep to run and tax at time when people are trying to save cash. I was thinking about upgrading to a Boxter but at the moment the VRS is too good to let go.

I agree. In the 11 weeks I have owned the car, I have done 2,600 miles and still get a big grin. In fact today, is the first day the car has sat not being used. Wonder if I will get withdrawal symptoms.

hmm i was looking at a Turbo'd Civic Jordan last nyt... LOL

Just paid a deposit on the SE and collecting it over the weekend.

10k from Skoda garage!
