drivethedeal offers on Scout - questions

Featured Replies

Have been looking at getting an Octavia Diesel Scout Estate and went on drivethedeal to look at prices. It currently lists under Octavia diesel estates "new models" and "other models" for this with both listing a 2.0TDI PD 4x4 5dr.

If you ask for the price on "new models" it gives you a price of: £17,795

If you ask for the price on "other models" it gives you a price of: £15,394

Any idea what the differences on this might be - is this related to the facelift? If so, does anyone really believe the price differential for the facelift model is worth it?

Cheers for any advice / help :)

The Scout isn't being facelifted but the 4x4 is.

I paid 15,800 for my ex demo 08 Scout (including 1,500 px) in mid December 2008, it had just of 6k on the clock and came with maxidot and multifunction steering wheel. I flet this was not a bad deal as I probably would have only got 1k for my old car if I sold it myself.

Must admit that was what I thought which made me question what on earth the two different prices are about.

I guess maybe they mean ex-demo or something. The difference is too great to be just a pre-reg so it must be used.

You got a PM by the way...

Don't forget that you will pay about 1K more for the Scout over the standard 4x4, some say it is not worth it but IMHO its still a good deal if you want some offroad ability and rates well against others such as the Subaru Outback. Looks nice as well, very pleased with mine :) I had an Outback before.

But the 4x4 still offers that - the only real difference is a very minor increase in ride height of 17mm or so IIRC (the 4x4 already having a raised ride height and sump guard).

plus the extra protection around front and rear wheel arches and I believe the spec is higher in terms of standard equipment 6 CD changer etc.. 17mm can make quite a differance on some of the forest tracks I frequent :D., but yes if you just want a 'chelsea quad' then the standard 4x4 is also good:thumbup:

Sorry should have clarified - the only real difference interms of off-road ability is a very minor increase in ride ehight of 17mm.

Yes there are spec differences etc. and extra cladding but they won't help off road.

For info and comparison 18 months ago I paid £16,500 for a 3 month old 4x4 with 8k miles and a lot of extras (metallic, 16" wheel upgrade, multifunction steering wheel and Maxidot, active headrests, rear centre armrest, heated seats, detachable towbar electrics and adapter, parrott bluetooth, mats, flaps and netting system). Total price should have been £21,690 so the deals are (or at least were) out there...

I don't think that's all that minor!

Well it's not a huge amount in terms of the overall ground clearance given the 4x4 is already raised. I would have also thought that the approach and departure angles on the Scout are reduced due to the extra cladding over the bumpers (or they certainly look as if they are).

Of course the above is only personal opinion and I guess it depends on different peoples opinion on what "some off-road ability" is but I'm sure that someone who's driven both over the same terrain will correct me if I'm wrong.

By the way please don't take my posts wrongly - I'm just noting that the 4x4 does still have some offroad ability that others may not be aware of, as there isn't a huge difference in this respect and specification aside between the 4x4 and the Scout. At the end of the day it'll all come down to tyres anyway...

Certainly when I had my Subaru Outback I found extra cladding a big bonus off road when it came to protection from flying gravel and nasty brambly things. However, when it comes to wheels and tyres I will certainly be swapping the Scouts 17" with SP1 on for 16" with M&S tyres for longer off-road trips and winter months. Its worth noting that I found out after i bought the Scout that snow chains cannot be fitted on the 17" standard wheels, slightly annoying for Alpine trips:(

Very true.
