Dont laugh now

Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia with 6 months tax and mot till end feb 2004. 100k miles  Price paid

Well done Manny ! , don't blame you . I hope you're not going sneaking off to a Ford forum now :D

Wouldn't worry about the miles , my better half has a diesel Polo with 186K miles on the clock - still keeps going , and she has it serviced about once a year , whether it needs it or not

Here's a pic of it in sunny Bangor taken by its previous owner, he originally wanted approx

Very good reason for buying an second car. Hope you have many save miles with it.

Grts. ****

Will I find that pic under "Silver Mondeos" on your website

As Ford's go, thats not a bad looking motor :)

I have to say, if i didnt have the works van, i'd do exactly the same thing, there's no way the RS is going near any building sites.

Good choice manny - sold my old K reg mondeo 1.8 lx, with 120,000 on the clock for

You'll find it handles very nicely. I chopped my R reg in for my Octy and am only just getting used to the Octy's tendency to wander all over the road compared with the Mondeo. Push it and it'll go round corners as quickly as your RS. You'll miss the power though.

Drove it to work today, drives fine. the only thing I have to remember is that it is NOT the vRS, has softer suspension, cant pull away from roundabouts quickly with the same umph,

Softer!!! Wow - vRS must be very different from my SLX. I want one :p

F.O.R.D = fix of repair daily, a bit like F.I.A.T = fiz it again tomorrow..

but seriously I see nothing wrong with driving it for a few months. If you want to get rid of it after you don't need it anymore, I'll take it off your hands and use it for banger racing. VROOOOOM! SMASH!

I did 120,000 miles in two different Mondeos, and the only mechanical problems were warped front brake discs (an old Ford failing) and a duff catalyst.

I'd just avoid Ford main dealers. They make Vauxhall dealers look good!

I did 43,000 miles in my last Mond in 18 months with no more than routine servicing and a replaced front lower control arm - the whole thing has to be replaced when the bushes wear. Sold it at 70k, still sweet and trouble free. Now I have something which is meant to be as reliable as a VW and has spent more time in the workshop than my last 4 cars combined in less than 6 months. Let's get real here.

Would agree with the above - my mundano got serviced annually and the only things that "went wrong" in 70,000 miles of motoring were down to wear and tear. BTW - never went near a Ford dealer local garages can do all the necessary, as Ford aprts are easily available, and are much cheaper.

The main thing wrong with Fords is the image/"common-ness" - the mondeos have got excellent chassis, handling and reliability.

Hmm...I'm going to have to go against the grain here and say I test drove an R-reg

1.8 Mondeo once, and it was bloody awful. It felt like it was designed with saving

money in mind, rather than the thought that someone might have to sit in it and

drive it!

Just my opinion of course, but as a sacrificial car to preserve the vRS, I'm

all in favour...

I drove one of the director's 51 reg mondeo's once (only about 2 miles) and the thing that really pi**ed me off was I couldn't find the buttons to move the seat forward. I ended up driving the thing hunched forward in the seat just so I could reach the peddles. Whats wrong with the bloody handle and rail set-up? simplicity is often the best solution I reckon. Generally though I didn't like the car's light steering - seemed too light for the size of car - never took it over 30mph either (honest) so never got a "taste" of the car. I'm a bit of a ford snob too and never honestly liked them - thats what you get from being brought up in a family of German car-owners... :D

I was having a look round it at lunchtime, and found an electric switch on the seat, and it makes the seat go up and down. Everything else ie. back/forward backrest and lumber are all manual. Weird.

The top-end models - Ghia X and ST24, have all electric adjustment. The Ghia makes do with electric height and manual everything else.

Edited to say all electric (except lumbar).

Edited again to say maybe the lumber is electric too - my memory is playing tricks on me :D

Anyone know how easy it is to change the door mirror's glass, one is broken and the other has separated from the heater element. can I put non heated ones like you get in halfords on.

Wanna Haynes manual cheap?? :D

The Mondeo I joyrode was a Ghia trim level - I figured that out just by the sheer mind-numbing number of buttons on the dash - looked like hundreds of 'em. I only confirmed it was Ghia when I got out and checked out the boot.

If you're in Halfords anyway, chances are they'll have an

unwrapped Haynes manual you can peak in! ;)

I'd imagine Mondeo-compatible parts will be pretty common,

and if the Halfords one doesn't work then there are plenty

of breakers out there who'll have something.

Mind you, complete new mirrors for the Mondeo are probably

only about 30-70 quid depending on where you go...

Manny - very easy to change the mirror glass - did mine and used Halfords for new glass.

I replaced one of my Senator's heated mirrors (circa

Looks like the cheap runabout is about to cost me some cash, got a puncture today. Still at least its cheaper for a new tyre than the RS. around
