How do you remove the glovebox?

Featured Replies

I would of thought this would of been covered in a post before, but after 15 mins of searching i'm still at a loss.

The haynes manual says you have to remove the gearbox/handbrake surround to take the center console surround off to get to a screw to take the glove box out... is that right? sounds mental compared to most cars.

It looks like in the pics theres just 2 at the bottom 3 at the top. I'm too lazy to go out and look at the car lol but is there one really hidden?

I have some annoying rattles i plan on tackling

The octavia mk2 has 3 at the top and 2 at the bottom, so i would presume this would be the same with the fabia.

No need to remove any other trim bits to get to "hidden" screws?

You have to remove the 'side' panel that butts up against the door (the same panel that covers the fuses on the drivers side). There's then a number of torx screws to undo, and also the pins that hold the glovebox door in place (these just slide out so a flat blade screwdriver is needed to pry them out).

Careful of the glovebox light when the whole assembly drops down - it'll still be attached, as will the rubber pipe for the A/C feed.

Do a search for leaves in the blower fan - there's some pics on there showing the G-box coming out and where the screws are. ;)

I seem to remember removing the side panel of the end of dash when I removed mine, don't think there is a screw there but it clips it all together.

EDIT: beaten to it :)

Yes i forgot about mine having the screws under the side trim, but they wern't there when i bought the car.

So i had to replace the said parts.

To remove my glovebox:

I unclipped the trim piece that is the equivalent of the fuse panel on the RHS of the car. This just pops off with a little persuasion with a blunt item ie butter knife or credit card.

I then (using a torx tool) unscrew the three torx screw across the top of the glovebox (with the door open).

I then, whilst supporting the weight of the glovebox with my one arm, undo the two screws on the underside of the glovebox (at either end).

The glovebox should then literally drop out. As other people have said allow it only to drop out by about 10 to 20cm so that you can unplug the glovebox light and take off the a/c pipe off the top
