steam up.

Featured Replies

Is it the norm for the h/lights to steam up 3or4 inch's along the bottom of the h/light unit on both sides of the car. octy58plate.

I've never in the past 3 years see mine do that.

IIRC there was a batch of headlights on early Octy IIs that had this problem, and they were replaced with improved ones with better vents or something. Maybe try a search on "headlights condensation" ?

During the heavy rains towards the end of last year, I had the same moisture problem with my head lights (57 vRS).

I had to go through deep water and following that I had heavy condensation, to the point that if formed into individual droplets.

Within a 3 / 4 days the lens was clear again. Natural venting cleared it away.

I would suggest yours will also clear after a few days. Unless they have been misted for a good length of time already, of course. In which case you could try leaving the bonnet open and removing the rubber bulb seal and headlight bulbs to get extra ventilation through the unit.

I had this problem with my first 06 vRS but I've also noticed it with my new one (58). I have put it down to it being sat idle outside in a compound for months so presumeably some damp has got into the lense. I keep mine in the garage overnight so hopefully it should prevent this.

I had this after I bought my 08 Scout, presumably because the garage had steam cleaned it. It cleared after about 2 weeks. I seem to remember reading in the manual that a certain amount was normal on occasions. I had it with my wife’s Seat Ibiza and my MG ZS, I dried it out with a hairdryer on these occasions and the problem did not reoccur. If you take it back to the garage they will probably just open up the backs and leave it in a garage overnight to dry out.
