Oil for Ford 1.8TDCI

Featured Replies

Any of the Ford Mechs out there know if there is any special ford standard for the oil to use in the 1.8 TDCI (115 PS)?

The manual just states 5w30 and that's about it.

Also does anyone know if the oil filter on this engine is a tin can or a paper in a permanent holder type?

Thanks in advance.

It that the Duratorque engine?

It is the TDCI, which I believe is a duratorque.

Thanks for the recomendations on the oils and if I can get them at my retailer on trade I'll be looking at them, failing that I was after the spec so I could find something that matched it.

Why oh why do cars always need a service at the coldest point of the year

There's a very handy search function on there which will come back with the right type for the Focus. They also do service kits - oil plus the right filter for a decent price. There's Brisky discount available for all, plus a further 15% off at the moment.

So wrong time to be doing it outside, right time to buy :)

That was the reccomendations from the opie oils web site for that engine, I found the oil datassheet for the ford specific if thats any use.

Thanks for that, looks like the correct spec that I'm after :)

I get trade at a local retailer so it I'll be sourcing the oil from them. Just got to hope it doesn't rain next weekend.

IIRC most brands have a "Ford specific" 5w30, I think its the same for the petrols and diseasals.

I've seen most of the ford ones, but the last time I touched a ford it was using 10w40.

The 5w30 seems to differ in the manual and it appears castrol suggest Magnatec 5w-30 as opposed to any of the edge series. That's a fully synthetic and a nice cost saving over the edge stuff too :)
