Intercooler boost hose popped off......Again!

Featured Replies

Basically ive had the RAC out to put it back on, and is now held in place with 4 zip ties, one either side of where the boost hose clips into the bottom of the intercooler, and two joining those ties together, so it should stop it coming off again for now.

Are there any better clips to use other than the standard ones? Im going to have to take it to a dealers near to Bournemouth, as im not near home here, I cant just take it to my local mechanic.

Im just trying to save myself a bill that I dont need from visiting the dealers, unless any of you reckon it will be a cheap fix just for them to put a new standard one back on?!

Cheers, Simon.

The clips should hold standard boost mostly, remapped you can have problems.

I would recommend buying a few new clips to replace them, they are pretty cheap. IIRC there was someone who did some kind of bracket clamp thing too though.

Other solutions are to replace the standard boost hose by uprated items, but that qualifies as a modification for insurance reasons officially I guess.

Worth a little searching though :)

Well as far as im aware its running a standard map. It did this before Christmas too, and was fixed, I dont understand how its gone again!

Are these clips something a VW or Skoda dealers will just have in stock?

Did they replace the clips or just clip the old one back in again?

It can happen with stock power as well, as the design is cr*p.

I would imagine they would be in stock, but not 100% sure. That said, any VAG dealer potentially could have it, and for example in Oxford the Skoda dealer called up the VW dealer for a part they did not have in stock, perhaps give you dealer a buzz.

If it keeps happening, it is possible the metal piece on the boost hose itself is a bit damaged, allowing it to slip out easily.

My car was mapped and the clip at the turbo end failed on me.

Cheers for your help! I will look into it.

Maybe a jubilee clip wold work? or would the design of it, prevent it from being fitted?

Si

Unfortunately that wont work on its own, however with a bit of creativity you can probably make a temporary bodge.

The clip slips behind/between (two) poxy little lugs - if it pops off, the clip has lost its strength already and putting it back will only hold it for so long.

I would imagine the clips are in stock considering it is quite common I guess

Mine came off 3 or 4 times (at standard boost) before I realised putting it back together would never solve the problem :D

I used the same solution as the RAC man (or you?) did - plastic ties around the pipe and around the intercooler and then two connecting those ties together

A few months on and I haven't had a repeat pop-off!

Yup thats exactly how mine is connected, however the 1st time it was fixed he only linked them both with one zip tie. So when it went this time, the top stayed in place but the bottom popped off (if that makes sense) so the pipe was at a funny angle. He has now complimented the top one with a bottom one to match, so hopefully it will last! I cant see how it can come apart again, unless the zipties snap!
