GPS speed vs. speedo

Featured Replies

following a post a while back re. what people's speeds were on their speedos compared to the digital readout on the climatronic, i also found about a 10% differential throughout the range up to not to silly speeds.

just before i sold the RS, i used the GPS speed function of my copilot live software on my PDA to see what it said. the figures tallied in with the climatronic readings, eg. at indicated 55, i'd be doing an actual 50 - at an indicated 85, i'd actually be 78-79 and so on. old hat to a lot of you i'm sure but very impressive.

tried it on my merc today and was surprised to see an almost exact reading. at a speedo indicated 85mph i was actually doing 84mph, so must be more conscious of my speeds as the 'built in' over-reading just doesn't exist in my car...

anyhow, just one extra thing why i love my PDA nav. software. have been really impressed with it and love the integrated gps antenna on my mitac mio 168. makes me realise that apart from some eye candy (and TV!), a factory fitted nav unit is so exorbitant and much, much less functional. i miss using my PDA in my new car.

I feel like I ought to post something relevant but the guy drives a Merc.

If you want to be generous and nice why not post him a petrol coupon - may well come in useful in the not too distant future !
