vRS Insurance

Had my renewal notice today - £601.00. 5 years NCD on an 07 plate vRS. I thought this was pricey so I went online and got it down to £300.00. So I rang my insurance broker and after a little bit of haggling reduced it to £325.00!!!

Proves that when you stay with one company, they are relying on people not checking their renewal polices and making a fat profit!

hehe, think yourself lucky im paying like £130 a month

I got a renewal through at £600 and my broker couldn't shift.

In the end I shopped around and eventually got £415.

However that is me with 13yrs NCB and 0 points on my license.

Out of interest - what's your total excess on your £325 policy?

Sounds about normal.

I could have ad my VRS for £275 but I opted to say with Esure and take protected ncd, legal etc etc. I think I was about £330 with the add ons. 6year ncd and my voluntary excess is £250 I think.

£250.00 excess and £75 excess on the windscreen.

And I got 3 points for speeding.

I live in London....and your right, not all parts are bad. Much the same as London, the rough and the not so rough!

No 25 and Manchester 3 points and no no-claims bonus and wanting to use the car for 25k a year business miles :( still, at least its offset by my car allowance.

 I live in London too, but only because SWMBO moved back to her home town, so I duly packed up and followed her. Ahhh, true love

I did add a few things to my cover.

So £415 gets me:

Fully Comp

Legal Protection/Aid

Guaranteed Maximum NCB

Guaranteed Hire Car (of same "class" as my own) for upto 14 days

£150 Total excess

£60 Windscreen excess

However even when I was generally searching and getting excess of £300+ I was not seeing anything lower than high £300s

And this is me - 33, 15yrs NCB, 0 points, lowest risk postcode - insurance company's obviously don't like me.

I'm 25.

Quoted for next year, 26 + 3 years NCB on my car = £500

Sound like mine was mate - 27, 3 points 0 no claims (due to ex company car however)

Was paying £100 a month with privelage. However, mate owns an insurance broker, loaded every possible discount on he could find. Gave me the Norwich Union introductory discount for those with 0 no claims but no accidents (i.e company car)

30k miles a year, Euro Breakdown recov, £175 excess - £598.

Couldn't believe it!

On the contrary, I'd say they like you a lot :P

Does your job title contain the words "CEO", "Director", "Dr" or anything else along these lines?

I had a discussion with our creative director the other day and it turns out that when he changed his job title from "senior designer" to "creative director" his insurance premium went up by £100!

I'd heard some job titles can load a premium.

I'm an IT Manager - so that shouldn't set alarm bells ringing.

I'm not really upset by my £415 premium considering all the features I've got.

The £150 total excess is a nice low figure should the worst happen and I'm guaranteed to keep my maximum no claims no matter how many accidents I was to have etc.

When I compare the £415 to a lot of other quotes I'm more than happy.

In fact I only really get upset when I hear of somebody with "lower stats" (by that I mean younger, less NCB, higher risk postcode etc) getting a better deal than me!

Although I don't often see that low an excess - the going rate (as per most of my quotes) seems to be £250 - £300 total.

Just be glad you're not a journalist or a professional sportsman. Those are the jobs with the highest loading.

Try having the Job title - National Account Manager i.e.National Sales.

That really loads your premium!

When I got my renewal last summer it was up to about £600 (from the Caravan Club), that was with 20 years driving experience, no points and full NCB.

'Phoned them up but they couldn't get it down. The woman was surprised too.

Did an internet search and got it down to £350 with Esure .... that includes courtesy car, legal cover etc.

Being an ex company car driver of 30years I had no NCB, so got my Octy VRS insured through my wife as a named driver(she has 15 years NCB). With a Fully Comp policy, legal protection, protected NCB, etc it came to £285 with More Than. In August 2008 a woman decided to drive into the side of my beloved (the car not the wife). 100% her fault, got it repaired very quickly, sent it back because the panels didn't line up. Now it seems the so-called legal protection is just not there, they have tried to get me to agree to a 50/50 blame and you never hear from them as to any news on proceedings. Just to say. I would be careful with cheap policies and call centres that may not be in the UK

Where are you guys buying your insurance.....just got a quote with my insurance company - Direct line - (I am thinking of returning to the brand after having a Fabia Vrs a few years ago) for an 06 Octavia Vrs fully comp with my 28yo female partner as a named driver - of £235.

Thats with full NCB kept on a driveway.

TO note however we also insure her car through them - so I get discount there - also we insure the house through them - also more discount,

But still thats one low figure!!!

Andy.

We were about £550. That's me at 28, Mrs AWOL at 31, policy in her name with business use for both of us up to £1,000 miles, 9 years NCB - protected, car kept in a locked and alarmed garage overnight (reckon they should give me more for that but they dont) and what is probably an 'average' postcode, in that it is not usually on fire, but does have a large council estate nearby. Excess is probably about £250 andcover with more than.
