Is something wrong with my baby.....

There are no HT leads on a mk2 Felicia Shiloh

yeah true, on the later ones the coilpack is attached directly to the spark plugs and sits on the front of the engine, and there are indeed no leads

Could carb cleaner sprayed on the throttle body help here perhaps?

my gut thought on this is more hall sensor/coolant sensor/map sensor

I always thought a hall sensor implied the use of a distributor (if only as an LT switch)? And therefore that all EMS Fellys had Top Dead Centre sensors, probably on the flywheel? I've never owned a Felly, and have owned a petrol car for 3 weeks (cheaper than renting) in the last 7 years 3 months (and counting).

To expand on Tom's #28 where I can:-

The coolant temperature sensor is supposed to tell the EMS when the car's warmed up, so the fuelling can be eased off. If it doesn't work right the car over-fuels, which can lead to poor power and fuel consumption, and even stalling and difficult starting. Of course Shiloh won't be able to report on loss of power or fuel consumption cos she's not had the car that long.

MAP - Manifold Absolute (some sources say Air) Pressure sensor. Measures how much air the engine is flowing indirectly, by measuring manifold depression. If this is faulty, causes bad fuelling due to rubbish airflow data, and hence poor running.

Morning! Lucky enough to have a day off work  She did her duty this morning - we dropped off little munchkin, did a quick run to the post office and home again. Some mild clouds coming from the exhaust but I assumed that was because I was doing a hill start (hills in Brighton are more like mountains  ) Had a bit of a chug coming round the bends to my house - in second gear and seeming to struggle? But apart from that, she seems ok - good thing too, the battery has gone on the Rover and it's a do-do at the moment :( So much for getting it MOT'ed and selling it!

I'm a newbie to the 1.3 myself. :D so am unsure of any of its quirks.

I think mine sounds like the starter motors rough but it fires up.

Yours will probably have the old Fav starter motor then which apparently tend to be noisy. The new improved felicia 1.3 starter motor can be bolted straight on if ever a replacement is required and should be quieter. I have learned since I got my car the starter motor had been replaced with a felly one.

Don't give up Shiloh if it runs generally well it will just be a small problem, and there are enough people around who can help you out. Its just a shame its happened so early into owning it. Keep on trucking:thumbup::thumbup:

Definitely seems to be struggling. Someone (not on here) suggested that if it's been sat for a while with an empty tank, gunk might be in the fuel so topping it up frequently will get it running more smoothly. Reckon it's worth a shot?? She's on half a tank at the moment, but I can fill her up with some nice stuff tomorrow (BP or Shell)........

Oh goody! Another excuse to post this, which AFAIK should apply to your 1.3:

If you have an aluminium and plastic thing like what's down the bottom of this pic, then you don't indeed have any HT leads. As an aside, the yellow oval marks the coolant temperature sensor, which has been mentioned in some earlier posts as a candidate for replacement. I did a guide for that here, although it's not a bad idea to replace the thermostat housing at the same time; instructions for which will be in your Haynes...

just thought i'd say, that the pic above is from a fabia, so it looks slightly different to the felicia, but most of the stuff is the same anyhow

If that's the case, filling right up will help, but I'd be more inclined to check the condition of the fuel filter, and give serious consideration to changing that.

I bought a fuel filter for my Felicia once when I got it serviced but we couldnt find the fuel filter (later learned its under the seats!!!!) but it didn't affect the running of my car.

Thanks for the tip anewman!!! The starter does seem a little noisey but its not causing problems so I'll be leaving it on for a bit.

I believe the fuel filter is accessible by removing the rear seats - and boot carpet, and there is a round metal cover - remove that and you should have access to it. I m sure someone will shout if I m wrong.

Haynes says to get underneath and remove exhaust heat shield at the back where it sits above. I looked at it and decided I couldn't be bothered :D

the fuel filter is tucked into the v in the rear axle beam on the 1300 and 1600 model felicia's, it's accessed from under the car and it's an absolute bugger to undo the hoses on it..... the cover under the rear seat is for the fuel pump/level sender unit..

Right enough, but I assume the coil pack and thermostat are similar enough for the purposes of this thread!

:)Surprised no-one has mentioned inlet manifold gasket.

Also, does the car use much coolant?

Gonna sound odd, but OH drove the car today and did the same thing to him  I was starting to think it was my driving or something!! He's had a look, and says the clutch cable needs tightening cos it should be level with the brake pedal.

We've got some WD40, some tools, and we'll be having a look at stuff tomorrow. WIll let you know how it goes ;)

Dang you have an OH

;)

It might be easier fitting a new clutch cable. Does the pedal feel stiff?

Changing to a Skoda/VW cable thats coated might help.

Adjusting/refitting is quite easy :D Just remember the final thing to do is stick the end back on the pedal and stick the circlip on.

Why Captain, I didn't know you cared!! ;)

Now you know I'm just the assistant mechanic on this one - and the nurse judging by the number of plasters required after he had been out there fiddling with the radio I installed and checking under the bonnet  I will let him know what you said

Clutch tightened and what a difference!!!!!  He checked all the other bits and pieces - oil is fine, water, wiggled a few wires. The juddering happens when he is driving too - sometimes made better by tapping the accelerator, sometimes not. It didn't stall on him but darn near.

Have decided with the MOT due next month (14th) I am going to take it to Skoda for a service. Having read chunks on here and listened to you guys, I feel more confident going in and asking them to have a look at it all.

This sounds so familiar:

http://briskoda.net/favorit-felicia-fun-forman/problem-t-reg-felicia/134519/

so I reckon a service will put my mind at rest. And I was right - I only got to be 'assistant' mechanic (sniff)

Someones coming to have a look and buy/scavenge bits from my Felicia in a bit. :(

More stuff going to save other Skodas.

Which means your little Felly lives on in others...

Sorry, I've only just seen this :o Checked the coolant and it looks fine. Hard to tell if it uses a lot since I only got it on Christmas Eve. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well he's gone with the PAS pump, pulley, belt + tensioner.

Also flogged a good tyre, PAS fluid and the airfilter.

Got £45 for the lot. (considering I only got offered £40 for the car off the guy who bought the seats)

At least I'm reclaiming space and my Felicias spirit will live on in other Skodas.
