A few other bits like what ??

As i dont think this is a exclusive with bits added can you clarify the difference of the 2 L+K models.

The 2005 L&K had these added over the Elegance, but underneath its still an Elegance.

Full leather upholstery

Electric memory driver's seat

Heated front seats

Active headrests

Multi-function steering wheel

Maxidot display

Light assistant

were the additions added.

The 2005 L&K as standard had the same 16" wheels as the elegance, its only when skoda officially released the L&K properly that the 17" wheels became standard in late 2006 IIRC for the 2007 model year.

Think of the 2005 L&K as a special edition rather than a separate model.

This is the brochure for the latest L&K, the pictures show what the latest version looked like including the standard sputnik 17" wheels.

http://new.skoda-auto.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Catalogue/Octavia/OctaviaLK_Catalogue_ENG.pdf

From what I can workout from Skoda UKs website, the last model was simillar, but included piano black interior trim, 17" sputnik wheels, the leather seats were ebossed with the L*K logo, Illuminated door handles, jumbo box with socket for mp3 player, electrically folding mirrors.

Hi thanks for replies,as its probably got the sports upgrade which is desirable to lots i must admit its even way too hard for me,not saying over time i could get used too it.

Will let him test drive and see but as my back and body were uncomfy after a 10 mile journey thats not good ,he has to travel a 400 mile journey regular,i suppose someone could assist him out of car after at the other end.

Will see what outcome is next week but i think the old mondeo might be the choice over the two, while i get something else sorted.

Roebuck, check the lumbar adjustment on the electric seats. The electric seats have a lot of adjustment, including lumbar, and seat base angle.

Hi arent all models same but extras added????

So the Elegance is a Ambiente with a few extra features and so on as all makes of cars usually are.

Not sure i get you but as a model is called Laurin Klement and stated on log book this and was probably in brochure at time called this i cant see what you are getting at.

Yes they may have added a badge at a later date to wing but so what all cars have revisions in the next year of making to differ them from year before otherwise no one would buy new model.

This has L+K stamped in leather ,kickplates on doors stamped L+K ,log book stamped L+K, Zenons 17" wheels but suppose its not a L+K .

Theyve gone to a lot of trouble to cover a elegance up ????????

So the outcome is the later L+K were just a previous L+K but with a few features added (badge on wing).

Just my 2p worth.... when I tried car a few months back, the 17" wheels on one Skoda Oct2 very hard, the 15" seem not quite right for the car on the one I tried. 16" seems for it size etc perfect (on Continental rubber).

I don't feel ever pot hole in the road and going slowly over speed humps my car has a nice bounce to it. Check you air, maybe fit a roll or two of Dynamat in back and under the rear wheel arches and have you tried adjusting the hardness of the seat?

Yes it does not feel like a French car but after 3 years a French car would be falling to bits, so ride not really a issue! Also the MK5 Golf has a much harder ride I found.

James.

Hi i thought the L+K came with 17" alloys as standard but think the Elegance model would maybe have fitted the bill more or a Passat 2.0 tdi estate.

The L+K has all the gear on it Zenons ,memory seats, heated leather seats, and have read every report under the sun on them and this is why i suggested this car for him, but anyway 60k as well so reasonable mileage .

If anyone knows anyone chasing one point them in my direction.

The L&K Mk2 came with 17" wheels from MY 2007. Prior to that L&K's had 16" as standard but 17" were an option. I was so fed up with the hard ride on my L&K that I changed the 17" wheels for 16" Elegance wheels. The Bridgestone Potenzas that were fitted to the 17" wheels are well known for their hard, noisy ride so I had Falken 452's fitted to the 16" wheels. This combination transformed the comfort of the car with very little impact on road holding. AFAIA sports suspension was never fitted to the L&K and I don't think that it was an option.

Ah ha; the plot thickens. ;)

so switching to 16" wheels seems like an option. Personally, and this is only my opinion, I would keep the 17" wheels and switch to FSDs but switch to 16" wheels with new tyres will likely be a cheaper option.

I was very lucky as I picked up a set of immaculate Elegance alloys on ebay but I think that they're about £220 each from the dealer!

I run 15's and the ride is great, they do look a little small in the arches though.

I tried 15" from my wife's Golf but found that the Octavia had a tendency to wander on motorways and it was certainly not as secure on bends. Rather odd because the Golf's comfort and road holding is excellent.

I find them to be fine, I do 80 motorway miles a day (unless I am driving like a **** in the bends). If i changed them it would only to look better. I am also a lard *** so that may help make the car sit down a bit:)

£220 will be with tyres (per wheel. i.e. circa £135 wheel + £85 tyre = £220

or

you ought to be able to find Skoda or Audi alloys on ebay for £150 - £200 for a set of 4 wheels; might even find them with tyres (although for safety/peace of mind I'd buy wheels only and get new tyres).

Be very careful buying SH wheels on ebay as there are variations in pcd and offsets. I originally bought a set of Audi wheels - the seller stated that the pcd was 112. It turned out that he didn't really know what he was talking about and the pcd was 100 (therefore only suitable for Mk.1 Octavias and Fabias). Fortunately he took them back but it was a lot of hassle.

BTW I was quoted £220 per wheel (without tyres) by the dealer!

Larcenous bandit ! - check the prices on Skoda's website!

Not even 18" B14s are that expensive.

It's not really important but I think the prices for wheels on the Skoda website are for options that substitute for the standard wheels on a new car. So you don't get an extra set of wheels. I assume that the price I was quoted was for a wheel supplied from the parts department. However, I can't find the price for such wheels on the website.

'Option wheels' as a factory order tend to be £250 - £400 to upgrade for the set, including larger tyres.

As you say not important, but please trust me that the £130 - £175ish per wheel quoted on Skoda's website is the cost as an 'Accessory' purchase (through the parts dept.); I know I have bought wheels this way. ;)

 I hate car dealers!

My TDI has stiffer rear springs for towing (previous owner) and a corner can be quite misleading....touch the brakes mid bend and the front end drops like a stone and the rear end wants to step out.

Ride quality is quite comfortable imo, compared to the Astra Coupe i had...that use to make tremendous thumps when it hit a pothole.

OK so its sound like 16" wheels are going to be the answer if more comfort driving is needed.

Will 16" wheels be the same rolling circumference?? So as not to mess with the speedo??

Ive driven the car for 100 miles today to satisfy myself and the ride was ok not brilliant just OK ,nothing to right home about tho.The car goes very well power from 140 is outstanding good for overtaking etc.

The ride was noisy + boomy at a good speed something you would expect from a cheaper car.Feels very solid and surefooted but not a relaxing cruiser for long journeys.

The seats look good but i cannot get comfy in them no matter how much adjustment i do.

All in all outcome from today was still too un-comfy at times and still feel every bump in the road yes you get fantastic handling round corners but personally id be willing to trade some of that for a little comfort.

It says something when after we jumped into a 2002 focus and agreed this was a better ride then something is up!!

If sports suspension wasnt an option then that can be ruled out,it must be the 17" wheels + low profile tyres that is doing it, id love to try 16" on it just to put the matter to bed.

The smaller the diameter of a wheel the 'deeper' the tyre wall. So the overall wheel and tyre diameter stays the same. This is why smaller wheels give a better ride because there is more 'depth' of rubber to insulate you from the road. Some people even fit 19" wheels on their Octavias so the tyre resembles a rubber band! The handling must be brilliant but goodness knows what the ride is like.

BTW if you live anywhere near me (Wirral, Merseyside) you're welcome to have a run in my L&K.

16" wheels will need 205/55 tyres (same size as your spare) whereas 17" wheels have 225/45 tyres; both have the same rolling radius.

So it's 16" wheels OR Koni FSD shock absorbers?

Is it worth seeing if anyone wants a wheel exchange- 16" to 17"?

Well, it depends. I went from my Fabia to my Leon DSG because of back problems. Mostly the DSG helps out, but the seats help a lot too- they are more supportive. The hard ride deosn't affect me.

Hi,

I had the same problem with an elegance 1.9 TDI. I bought it 1yr old at a good price without driving it after trying an ambience locally, then found the wife couldn't live with the ride. The whole cab semed to pitch opposite to the road surface. I swapped 16 " wheels to 15" which should have helped but didn't. Finally I bit the bullet and had Koni FSD shocks fitted at JKM Portsmouth. They can't be more helpful. It was expensive (£500 +), but I'd saved enough to justify it and it means the wife's happy now and I keep a car I love!

hope this helps

Witth response to roebucks criticisms of the ride comfort in his Octavia, i have to say I totally agree. I have recently purchased and Octavia Sport 2.0 140 pd dsg and it is the worst riding car i have ever driven.

I appreciate that the sport has uprated suspension, but my god it's harsh. I previously had an A4 elegance and it was an overall far superior car. Except for the performance and the stereo, everything about it was better.

Both these cars are my taxi's, so the routes are virtually identical and mileages high so easy comparisons can be made.

My new car is an '06 and has only done 25000 so nothing should be worn. I also cannot live with it and am looking for a new A4. They are still available in a fairly basic spec. I also hate the DSG. If anyone else does, would be interested to read
